CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (1-8) recorded two singles victories and one doubles win in a 5-2 loss to Western Kentucky (9-4) Saturday at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
Southeast started strong in singles competition, where Nikole Novikova and Elizabeth Nyenwe winning in each of the top two spots. Novikova defeated Monta Reinfelde, 7-6, 4-6 (10-5) at No. 1 and Nyenwe beat Katrina Vucina, 6-3, 4-6 (10-4) at No. 2. Both Novikova and Nyenwe earned their team-high fourth singles victories of the season.
The Redhawks then dropped their last four singles bouts.
In doubles action, Novikova and Nyenwe defeated Reinfelde and McKinley Mason, 8-4, at the No. 1 spot.
Southeast returns to Ohio Valley Conference action at Jacksonville State on Mar. 26.
