Michael Reavis joins Southeast Missouri gymnastics for his first season as assistant coach.
Reavis, who competed collegiately at Iowa, will coach the Redhawk uneven bar competitors. He will also assist with administrative and other coaching duties during the year.
A decorated gymnast during his time with the Hawkeyes, Reavis won a national championship on vault in 2005. He also claimed two individual Big Ten titles and was a first-team All-American four times. The Hawkeyes qualified for the NCAA Championships in all four of his competitive seasons, which included a trip to the NCAA Team Finals during his senior year.
After finishing his collegiate career at Iowa, Reavis earned a spot on the US National Team, where he trained under current Olympic coach Kevin Mazeika. He won two USA floor titles and one more championship on vault.
Following his stint with the national team, Reavis spent time working in the private sector before joining the Cirque du Soleil show Saltimbanco on its European tour from 2009-11. The show performed in more than 25 countries and Reavis himself served as a public liason in English-speaking markets. He helped develop and execute the show’s One Drop ad campaign while serving as an artist in the show.
A native of Tallahassee, Fla., Reavis graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies in 2006.
