Kevin Emerick

  • Title
    Assistant Coach
Kevin Emerick is the newcomer of the Southeast women's basketball staff, but is far from new to coaching as he brings extensive experience at the collegiate level that spans over two decades to the Southeast program. Emerick will help coach forwards and post players for Southeast. He is charge of offensive improvement with emphasis in perimeter play. He will also oversee scheduling and assist in recruiting. Before coming to Southeast Emerick was the women's head coach at Montana State University-Northern, a NAIA D-I school. In his first season as head coach he led MSU-N to a 26-8 record, a top-ten ranking and a "Sweet 16" birth in the NAIA Tourney. In 2002 his team ranked amongst the top 16 teams in the nation. Emerick brings with him over 13 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level, including five as a head coach. A graduate of Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa he got his start in coaching serving as a volunteer coach for the men's basketball team at Blackhawk Junior College where he received his associates degree before moving on to Mount Mercy. At Mount Mercy he again served as a volunteer coach for the women's basketball program under head coach Dave Slifer. Slifer is the current head coach at Central Missouri State. Emerick then moved on to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville to serve as an assistant women's basketball coach. After one season he then took over as interim head coach during the 1997-98 season. While at the Division III school, he led Wisconsin-Platteville to their first back-to-back "double-digit win" seasons in eight years. After UWP he took the position of head women's basketball coach at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. He also served as Director of Athletics and NCAA Compliance Officer as well at OPSU. As a coach Emerick, took over a program that had a losing record six years in a row and led OPSU to their first winning season in seven years, their first regional ranking ever in NCAA Division II, first win ever against a ranked opponent and his team finished in the top-25 in the nation in team G.P.A in 1999 with a team cume of 3.33 (every team he coached from 1998-2000 had a G.P.A of 3.1 or higher). An amazing 96% of his players graduated. As an athletic director, he managed the department's budget, oversaw all hiring, supervised fifteen collegiate coaches and a department staff. He assisted in the transition of OPSU moving from the NAIA ranks to NCAA D-II level in 1999. He established connections with local and regional media that led to increase visibility and coverage of OPSU athletics. A native of Laura, Illinois, "Coach E" attended Princeville High School, one of the top IHSA athletic programs in central Illinois.
