Stephanie Mata joined the Southeast Missouri softball coaching staff on Oct. 22, 2012.
Mata returns to Southeast after playing for the Redhawks from 2004-07. She will work with hitters, outfield defense, and be involved with recruiting.
“As a player, Stephanie's style of play was very competitive and she was very passionate about how she played the game,” Richmond said. “I am proud to have her back where it all began for her.
Prior to Southeast, Mata was the head coach at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, Ill. for two seasons. Before her stint at Oakton, Mata held a graduate assistant coaching position at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Ark.
“We will have her involved with all aspects of the program to give her experience to further her career path in coaching.”
Mata has also had coaching and teaching experience at the high school and middle school level in the Egyptian School District in Tamms, Ill. She served as the physical education teacher, head varsity softball coach, and middle school basketball coach.
While a student at Southeast, Mata graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors degree in Education and then went on to get her Masters degree in Higher Education Administration with an emphasis in Athletic Administration.
