Kyle Gerdeman enters his third year as an assistant coach at Southeast Missouri.
Gerdeman hails from Wright City, Mo., and oversees post player development, scheduling and serves as the Redhawks recruiting coordinator.
A 1998 graduate of Southeast, Gerdeman began his first Division I coaching job with the Redhawks in 2009-10.
He helped develop Leon Powell, who led the nation in field goal percentage en route to earning Second-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference and OVC All-Newcomer Team honors last season. Powell, who also led the Redhawks in points, rebounds and blocks, is back for his final year at Southeast in 2011-12.
In addition, Gerdeman has assembled two strong recruiting classes which have laid the foundation for a turnaround in Southeast basketball.
Gerdeman returned to Cape Girardeau after working three years as head coach at Moberly Area Community College. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at Mineral Area College (2004-06), Moberly (2001-03) and East Central College (1998-2001).
Gerdeman helped recruit and develop 23 NCAA Division I transfers, including the 2005 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Player-of-the-Year (Eddie Smith). He also mentored five NJCAA All-Americans and won three Region XVI championships -- two as an assistant at Moberly -- at the junior college level. Gerdeman led Moberly to a fifth-place finish in the 2002 NJCAA National Tournament.
With over 13 years of coaching experience, Gerdeman has strong connections to high school, junior college and AAU coaches in the state of Missouri.
After graduating from Southeast in 1998, Gerdeman obtained his Master’s degree in Education from Central Methodist University. His father, Dave, was a long-time high school basketball coach in Missouri. Dave coached at three different high schools, including Winfield, Wright City and Fort Zumwalt North, during his career.
Gerdeman and his wife, Angie, have two children, Alyssa (11) and Karson (3).
