The 2013 season marks Tyler Hennes’ third as an assistant coach at Southeast. Hennes coaches the quarterbacks and is the Redhawks recruiting coordinator.
Hennes, who hails from Mulvane, Kan., mentored Scott Lathrop, who became the first Southeast player to be named Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in 2012. Lathrop threw for 1,025 yards and seven touchdowns and ran for 824 yards and seven TDs as a redshirt-freshman.
Prior to that, Hennes helped develop three-year starter Matt Scheible, who became the first quarterback in the OVC to rush for 2,000 yards and throw for 4,000 yards in a career. Scheible also an All-OVC selection, broke the school’s all-time career record in total offense. He finished his career ranked among Southeast’s single-season and career leaders in several categories.
Hennes graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social science from Emporia State in 2006. He then played two years at Independence Junior College (2003-04) and later returned there to coach the wide receivers.
After that, Hennes coached the running backs for two years at Delta State (2008-09).
