Paul Helsel

  • Title
    Strength & Conditioning Coach
Paul Helsel, now entering his seventh season as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Southeast, is responsible for the design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for all varsity sports. Helsel brings with him to Southeast a wealth of experience in being involved with championship programs. While he was a student assistant, then later graduate assistant strength coach at The University of Alabama, the Crimson Tide won the 1992 National Championship in football and four SEC West titles. While he was an assistant at Marshall University, the Thundering Herd won three of their four consecutive MAC championships from 1997-2000.

"I've been truly blessed to have been a part of some very successful programs early in my coaching career," Helsel said. "I've had the opportunity to work under some outstanding strength coaches such as Terry Jones, Steve Martin and LeBaron Caruthers while at Alabama; in addition to Mike Jenkins at Marshall. The object is to learn from each person, then develop your own philosophy that best suits your personality and the goals you've set for yourself as a strength and conditioning coach."

The Jasper, Ala., native holds a bachelor of science degree in Physical Education and a master of arts degree in Human Performance Studies, both from The University of Alabama. He is also a certified member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, as well as a member of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association.

Helsel is married to the former Mila Keeney.
