Nate Dreiling is in his first year as Southeast Missouri’s run game coordinator and inside linebackers coach.

Dreiling spent one year as defensive analyst at the University of Oregon. Before that, he worked three seasons as an assistant coach at Pittsburg State and two years as a graduate assistant at Kansas.

A former four-year All-American at Pittsburg State, Dreiling returned to his alma mater for his first full-time job as safeties coach in 2017. He was later promoted to defensive coordinator and worked in that role during the 2018 and 2019 campaigns.

In his first season with the Gorillas, Dreiling helped the PSU defense generate 25 turnovers and rank 19th nationally in fumble recoveries. The Gorilla defense also ranked second in the nation in fourth down conversion percentage (.200).

In 2018, Dreiling oversaw a PSU defense that led the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) in sacks and interceptions, while ranking 22nd nationally in total defense (304.8 ypg).

During his final season at PSU, the Gorillas finished second in the MIAA in both pass defense and interceptions, while ranking 17th nationally in interceptions and 18th in sacks (3rd in the MIAA).

As the Gorillas defensive coordinator, Dreiling coached 17 players that were named to the all-conference team, including five safeties. Three of his players earned first-team accolades, as well.

Dreiling began his coaching career at Kansas where he worked as a graduate assistant with the linebackers (2015) and defensive line (2016).

Dreiling garnered All-America honors all four years as a linebacker at NCAA Division II Pittsburg State (2010-13). He earned consensus First-Team All-America honors as well as NCAA Division II National Defensive Player of the Year accolades from the Don Hansen Football Committee in 2011.

He was a First-Team All-MIAA pick in each of his final three seasons and was tabbed the 2011 MIAA Defensive Player of the Year. Dreiling secured Second-Team All-MIAA honors as a redshirt-freshman in 2010.

Dreiling set both PSU and MIAA records for career tackles (491) and helped the Gorillas capture the 2011 NCAA Division II National Championship. In addition, he earned CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors after his senior season in 2013.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies from PSU in December 2013.
