Brian Lees returns to the Southeast Missouri coaching staff for a second year as the volunteer assistant. His primary responsibilities include working with the catchers and hitters, camp director, field maintenance, day-to-day office responsibilities and organizing meals.Â

Lees was the catcher for the Redhawks for the 2016 and 2017 season, making over 100 starts behind the plate. In his senior campaign, Lees had a .991 fielding percentage in his 53 appearances behind home plate. He held a .326 batting average with 61 hits and 37 RBI over 187 at bats. Lees racked up 18 doubles, three triples and four home runs his final season in a SEMO uniform.

In 2016, he had 50 hits during 185 at-bats to sport a .260 batting average while slugging .376. Lees, a Brunswick, Ohio native, led the Redhawks with a .988 fielding percentage. His 496 chances led the conference, while 432 putouts ranked him second. After the remarkable 2016 season, Lees was named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List.Â

While at Akron, Lees appeared in 29 games, making 27 starts behind the plate in 2014. He held a .239 (27-113) batting average his freshman season, finishing with 12 RBI, five doubles in nine multi-hit games. As a sophomore, Lees hit .292 in 55 games behind the plate for the Zips. He picked up 59 hits, hit 10 doubles and blasted one home run. In the program’s last season, he drove in 21 runs and scored 30.Â
