The Southeast Missouri Track and Field teams opened up the OVC Championships with one school record and four event winners as day one of competition is complete.
To open the morning session, the men's pentathlon kicked off with its first four events.
Luis Schadlich sits in third place with 2,770 points after clearing 1.90m to finish second in the high jump and placing third in the shot put with a throw of 11.70m.
Kannon Harlow also remains in the top five with 2,734 points, highlighted by a personal-best mark of 13.26m to win the shot put.
Moving into the field events,
Trenton Braswell and
Marshall Swadley each secured podium finishes in the weight throw. Braswell placed second with a mark of 67' 11", while Swadley followed in third at 65' 3".
Zavier Winton added points for the Redhawks with a fifth-place finish and a personal-best toss of 63' 7".
The Redhawks earned their first individual title of the meet as
Liberty Blackburn captured the OVC Championship in the women's high jump, clearing 5' 6.5" on her first attempt. She edged out teammate
Brianna Dixon, who also cleared 5' 6.5" to finish second.
SEMO continued to add points in the men's long jump, where
Aarion Jackson placed seventh with a leap of 22' 7.75".
In the women's weight throw, SEMO dominated the event by claiming the top four spots. OVC Champion
Andreese Ortiz led the way with a season-best mark of 60' 2", followed by
Alyssa Repke in second (58' 6"),
Bailie Hux in third (56' 6"), and
Baylee Beard in fourth (54' 6").
Closing out the field events,
Sullivan Gleason broke the school record to win the pole vault, clearing 17' 5" (5.31m).
Jake Cannon also reached the podium with a personal-best clearance of 16' 9", while
Colin Beers narrowly missed a top three finish, placing fourth at 16' 5".
On the track, SEMO continued its strong showing beginning with the men's 60m hurdles prelims.
Marcus Gordon Jr. qualified third overall, while
Jon'David White placed sixth to advance to Wednesday's final. In the women's 60m hurdles prelims,
Anna Thomason (8.50) and
Clara Billing (8.74) claimed the top two qualifying spots, with
Brianna Dixon close behind in fourth at 8.84. All three earned spots in the final.
In the men's 400m, the Redhawks advanced three runners to the final.
Jackson Witvoet led the trio with a fourth-place finish in 48.63, followed closely by
Jonas Davis in fifth at 48.66 and
Kani Smith in eighth with a time of 49.66. On the women's side,
Sydney Burdine was the lone Redhawk to qualify for the 400m final, posting the top overall time of 55.86.
Freshman
Jasmine McClelland narrowly secured a spot in the women's 60m dash final, taking eighth overall in 7.67 seconds.
In the 800m prelims,
Cole Reinders paced the Redhawks with a second-place finish in 1:52.61, just ahead of
Tyler Anderson in third at 1:52.87, as back claimed spots in the final.
Ceyda Bayur was the lone SEMO woman to qualify in the event, finishing eighth in 2:18.01 to move on.
Later in the day,
Jonas Davis added another qualification, placing fourth in the men's 200m with a time of 21.56 to earn a spot in Wednesday's final.
In the men's 5,000m,
Garrett Dumke battled to a runner-up finish in 14:48.78, earning All-OVC honors. On the women's side,
Nova Ojutkangas captured the conference title in the 5,000m, crossing the line first in 17:25.48.
To close out the day, the men's distance medley relay secured a third-place podium finish with a combined time of 10:08.42.
The meet will conclude Wednesday, beginning with the pentathlon at 9 a.m. EST. Field events are set to start at 11 a.m. EST, followed by the running finals at 12:30 p.m. EST.
