Track and Field Squads Travel to Louisville for OVC Championships

 
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Southeast Missouri Track and Field teams travel to Louisville to compete in the OVC Indoor Championships

The meet will take place start Tuesday with the heptathlon at 9 a.m. EST, followed by field events at 1 p.m. EST and running events firing off at 3 p.m. EST. On day two, the pentathlon will start at 9 a.m. ahead of field events at 11 a.m. EST and running events at 12:30 p.m. EST. 

OVC History

This is the 46th men's indoor championship and the 40th women's championship. The Redhawk men have won four indoor titles (1996, 2014, 2015, 2022) and the women have won 10 team championships including the last three.

Head Coach Eric Crumpecker has won OVC Coach of the Year four times on the women's side and three times for the men. 

The Redhawks have also had 14 females win OVC Athlete of the year including returning OVC Field Athlete of the Year Anna Thomason. The women have also won five OVC Freshman of the Year Awards, most recently in 2024 with Brianna Dixon. At the 2025 indoor championships returning female champions include Thomason in the 60m hurdles and the pentathlon, Clara Billing in the pole vault and Bailie Hux in the weight throw. 

On the men's side they have tabbed 16 athletes of the year and eight freshmen of the year including Marshall Swadley and Tanner Koontz who are currently on the squad. They have also had five championship MVPs and the lone returning champion from the 2025 championships is Sullivan Gleason

Last Time Out

SEMO hosted the Redhawks Open, its second home meet of the season and took home 10 event titles. Leading the way on the women's side, Clara Billing won the pole vault at 13-7.50, matching the school record. Andreese Ortiz claimed the weight throw title with a personal-best mark of 59-1 and later added a personal-best 47-3 to finish second in the shot put. Alaina Lester soared to victory in the triple jump with a leap of 38-3, while Claire Horstmann took the mile crown in 5:35.7. Jasmine McClelland sprinted to a first-place finish in the 55 meters in 7.12. On the men's side, Colin Beers cleared a personal-best 16-7 to win the pole vault, and Marshall Swadley delivered a personal-best 66-9 to capture the weight throw. Trenton Braswell secured the shot put title with a mark of 54-0. Byron Sowerby ran to victory in the mile in 4:21.9, Jon'David White clocked a personal-best 7.70 to win the 55-meter hurdles, and Jackson Witvoet claimed the 55-meter dash in 6.47.

The Redhawks also piled up runner-up and third-place finishes throughout the meet. Layla Fliege placed second in the women's mile in 5:40.0, while Sydney Burdine finished second in the women's 55 meters in 7.22. In the men's pole vault, Sullivan Gleason took second at 16-1 and Jake Cannon tied for third at 16-1. Trenton Braswell added a second-place finish in the weight throw at 66-1, with Zavier Winton taking third at 57-9. Mark Goldman was second in the shot put at 51-7. Trey Mygatt finished second in the men's mile in 4:22.3, just ahead of teammate Sam Rinehart, who was third in 4:27.0. Marcus Gordon Jr. secured second in the 55-meter hurdles in 7.78, and Jonas Davis was second in the 55 meters in 6.48. Witvoet also added a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 21-4, while Luis Schadlich cleared 6-1 for third in the high jump.

National Rankings

The SEMO track team is well represented on the individual event national rankings. Despite not competing in the shot put since the Indiana Invitational (Jan. 16-17) Marshall Swadley's mark of 62-2.5 still sits at No. 22 in the nation. 

On the women's side Clara Billing is in a tie for 50th in the nation in the pole vault and Anna Thomason still sits 26th in the pentathlon.

OVC Rankings

Along with having a presence on the national lists the SEMO track teams are well represented on the OVC rankings. The Redhawks have 12 athletes at the top of events. The women have 10 athletes leading the lists, while the men have two. 

Leading the lists on the women's team includes Sydney Burdine in the 400m, Madelyn Gray in the mile Nova Ojutkangas in the 3000-meters and 5000-meters, Anna Thomason in the pentathlon and the 60-meter hurdles, Andreese Ortiz in the shot put and weight throw, Clara Billing in the pole vault and Brianna Dixon in the high jump. For the men, the distance medley relay and Marshall Swadley, in the shot put, lead the way. 

Along with the event winners SEMO has 10 men in the top three of events and the women add seven others in the top three as well.

Athletes that qualify will compete at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships which take place March 13th and 14th in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
