COMMERCE, Texas – Freshman
Lilly Blagoue went 4-for-5 with a home run and delivered a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send Southeast Missouri (3-6) to a 7-6 victory over Marist (4-4) Saturday morning at the Lion Invitational.
Due to heavy rain and lightning, SEMO's final game against Missouri State scheduled for later today, was canceled. The Redhawks concluded the tournament with a 3-1 record.
SEMO had the top of its lineup at the plate to set the table for Blagoue in the seventh.
Kamden Hutton and
Madison Winkler singled.
Abby Robbins moved the runners on a sacrifice bunt to put Redhawks at second and third. After
Kinley Wilkins lined out to right field, Blagoue singled through the right side and Hutton scored the winning run.
Marist threatened in the top of the seventh when it had the bases loaded with one out.
Elliott Stinson relieved
Willow Van Haren and recorded two huge strikeouts to keep the Red Foxes off the board.
SEMO led, 3-1, after three innings before Marist put up five runs to take a 6-3 lead in the top of the fourth inning.
The Redhawks made it a one-run game during their turn in the fourth.
Raigan Brannon and Wilkins each drew RBI-walks with the bases loaded to narrow Marist's lead to 6-5.
Then, in the bottom of the sixth, pinch-runner
Abby Robbins scored the tying run when
Gracie Luna hit into a fielder's choice.
Stinson (1-0) was credited with her first win of the season.
Kaylie DeChicchis (1-2) took the loss. DeChicchis allowed one run on five hits in 1.2 relief innings.
Marist pitchers combined for eight walks allowed.
SEMO notched a season-high 12 hits and had 11 or more in three of its four games at the Lion Invitational.
Like Blagoue, Saysoff also had four hits. She finished a perfect 4-of-4 with two RBI, while Hutton, Winkler, Luna and
Addisyn Martinie accounted for the other hits.
The Red Foxes tallied 11 hits.
SEMO continues tournament play when it heads to the Arkansas Woo Pig Classic Feb. 20-22.
