Second Half Surge Not Enough in 88-76 Loss to Lindenwood

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri (9-9, 4-3) scored 58 points in the second half but it wasn't enough in an 88-76 loss to Lindenwood (11-7, 5-2) Thursday night at the Show Me Center.

SEMO and LU locked up in a nationally televised ESPNU matchup, the first of the Ohio Valley Conference's linear TV package this season.

The Redhawks trailed by 31 (53-22) with 17:09 left to play but made a big push down the stretch to get within single digits.

Brendan Terry's 3-pointer cut LU's lead to 83-74 with 1:52 remaining.

Blaize Saigna then knocked the ball loose to PJ Farmer who went in for dunk to pull the Redhawks within seven.

A common foul by Terry and a technical foul by Landren Blocker then resulted in five points, including three free throws by Dontrez Williams (1) and Anias Futrell (2), and a second-chance basket by Mekhi Cooper that finished off the Lions' 88-76 win.

SEMO outscored LU, 58-43, in the second half.

LU put SEMO in a big hole when it heated up to make 12 of its first 14 field goals at a 85.7 percent clip.

Behind its red-hot shooting, the Lions went on a 22-2 run to take a 26-7 lead. The Redhawks went scoreless for over six minutes during that stretch.

BJ Ward's 3-pointer ended a stretch of 12-straight scoreless SEMO possessions bringing the score to 26-10 with 8:43 remaining in the first half.

The Redhawks later missed eight-straight field goals until David Idada's basket made it a 43-18 game with less than a minute left.

LU headed into the locker room with a comfortable 45-18 advantage.

SEMO shot just 21.9 percent (7-of-32) from the field and scored its fewest points in a half this season.

New Madrid County native Jadis Jones and Futrell keyed LU's 45-point first half with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Luke Almodovar led SEMO with 21 points off the bench, while Braxton Stacker followed with 11, Terry added 10 points and six rebounds, and Farmer pitched in a season-high 12.

Additionally, Ward went over 200 assists in his career.

Futrell had a game-high 28 points, Williams finished with 22 and Jones registered a double-double 20 points and 10 rebounds.

SEMO continues its lengthy home stand vs. SIU Edwardsville on Jan. 17.
