Redhawks Push Tigers to Brink, Fall in Five Sets Wednesday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Southeast Missouri Volleyball (12-10, 4-4 OVC) fell to Missouri (13-7, 4-4 SEC) in a tightly contested five-set match on Wednesday evening at Houck Field House, with scores of 18-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17, 8-15. SEMO delivered a strong performance in the fourth set with a .455 hitting percentage but ultimately could not overcome the Tigers' decisive fifth-set play.

First Set  
- Southeast Missouri started strong with a kill by Katherine St. John, assisted by Nina Schuberth, to take an early lead.  
- The Tigers quickly responded with a series of points, including a kill by Janet deMarrais and a service ace by Tyrah Ariail, building a 7-3 advantage.  
- Lucy Arndt contributed multiple kills to help Southeast Missouri narrowed the gap to 12-10.  
- The Tigers closed the set with a decisive 7-0 run, highlighted by a kill from Maca Lobaglio, to secure a 25-18 victory.  

Second Set  
- Southeast Missouri tied the set at 3-3 with a service ace by Nina Schuberth.  
- The Tigers responded with a 6-1 run, highlighted by a service ace from Claire Morrissey, pushing the score to 10-6.  
- Southeast Missouri State regained momentum, leveling the score at 11-11 with a service ace from Megan Holder.  
- Katherine St. John recorded a decisive kill to close the set 25-20 in favor of SEMO.

Third Set  
- The Tigers started strong, opening a 3-0 lead with kills from Tia Phinezy and Caylen Alexander.  
- SEMO responded with a kill by Lucy Arndt and a service ace, leveling the score at 13-13.  
- Marin Johnson's consistent performance helped Southeast stay competitive, contributing multiple kills to keep the score close.  
- The Tigers secured the set 25-23 after capitalizing on attack errors by Southeast, ending with a final point on a block by Tyrah Ariail.

Fourth Set  
- The Tigers took an early lead with a 3-1 advantage, aided by a kill from Tia Phinezy.  
- SEMO responded with a 4-1 run, including a block from Marin Johnson to reclaim momentum.  
- Nina Schuberth delivered consecutive service aces, extending the home team's lead to 13-8.  
- Marin Johnson's kill secured a 25-17 set victory for SEMO, concluding the set.  

Fifth Set  
- The Tigers took an early lead with a kill by Tyrah Ariail and a service ace by the team, establishing a 2-0 advantage.  
- A kill from Katherine St. John put SEMO on the scoreboard, narrowing the gap to 2-1.  
- The Tigers extended their lead to 5-2, capitalizing on a service error and a kill by Caylen Alexander.  
- Tyrah Ariail's final kill sealed the set for the Tigers at 15-8, giving them the match victory.
