
Four Athletes Earn OVC Weekly Awards

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Four SEMO track and field athletes earned Ohio Valley Conference Athlete of the Week honors for their performances this past weekend, the league announced Wednesday Afternoon.
Nick Cimmarusti tabbed OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week for the first time this year. The senior placed second in the 5000m race with a time of 14:29.72, ranking ninth in SEMO record books and first in the OVC.
Anna Thomason claimed OVC Female Track Athlete of the Week after recording a time of 8.52 in the 60m hurdles to tie her personal best. The junior placed ahead of 24 other athletes and her time ranks second in the SEMO records by just .02 seconds, first in the OVC, and 106 in the NCAA.
Paden Lewis tabbed OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this season. The thrower placed first and third in the weight throw and shot put with distances of 71' 4" and 60'0.25". The Weight throw ranks third in SEMO records and second in OVC behind himself, the shot put ranks fourth in SEMO records, first in the OVC and 42nd in the NCAA.
Andreese Ortiz picked up OVC Female Freshman of the week for the first time in her young Redhawk career. Ortiz placed 12th in the shot put ahead of 14 other athletes with a personal best mark of 44' 6.25. That mark ranks third in the conference and is the highest freshman mark of the season so far.
All of these athletes will be back in action this weekend for the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational.
