Tennis Falls 5-2 Against Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ken. -  Southeast Missouri tennis (0-3) falls 5-2 against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (2-0) at the Warren County Tennis Facility Friday night.

The match started off with doubles play and WKU ended up capturing the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles position.

Lera Valeeva and Kristina Kozakova fell 6-1 on court two to Mia Miranda and Emily Schut. On court three Yontha Tadoum and Claudia Casas lost to Sunskrithi Damera and Mariana Zegada 6-2. 

Maja Bajorek and Mia Mayerová went unfinished at the No. 1 doubles position at 3-5.

In singles action, Bajroek and Juliette Demunck were the two Redhawks to dfeat their opponents and get the two points for SEMO. Bajorek won in straight sets at the No. 3 position defeating Miranda 6-4, 7-6. Demunck won in a three set thriller against Damera, losing set one 7-5, then fighting back in sets two and three winning 6-1, 10-8 on court 4. 

At the No. 1 and No. 2 positions Western Kentucky's Rachel Hermanova defeated Lera Valeeva in three sets. Valeeva won the first 6-4, then fell 6-3, 6-4 in sets two and three. Tadoum fell to Sofia Blanco 6-4, 6-1.

Mayerová fell to Zegada in straight sets, losing a close first set 7-5. Then 6-0 in the second set on court five. At the No. 6 position, Kozakova fell 6-0, 6-3 against Schut. 

Head Coach Steve Brooks thought the team played well and thought the match was competitive from start to finish. Coach Brooks had this to say about tonight's match, "It was a very competitive match. This young team is learning and growing from each match. We were very competitive at the No. 1, 2, and 5 positions throughout the whole match. One day better!"

Looking Ahead
The Redhawks stay on the road as they travel to Conway, Arkansas to take on the Central Arkansas Bears. The match is scheduled for Sunday, January 26 at 10:00 a.m., CT, the UCA tennis courts.
