SEMO never led in the game during its fifth game decided by four or less points this season.
The Redhawks missed their first nine shots and did not score for the opening 6:10 of the contest.
LU took advantage of the cold shooting to take a 13-0 lead.
TJ Biel's layup ended SEMO's drought with 13:50 left to play in the first half and sparked a 6-0 jaunt.
Elliot Lowndes added a dunk and Teddy Washington, Jr. got a steal and jumper to cut the Lions lead to 13-6 just 45 seconds later.
The Redhawks put together an 11-2 run after its scoreless start and used a pair of free throws by
Marqueas Bell to get within four (15-11) with 10:34 to go.
A
Rob Martin 3-pointer and two free throws by Washington, Jr. dropped the Lions lead to four two more times before a corner 3-pointer by Washington, Jr. made it a 20-19 game.
Martin again scored, this time on a baseline jumper to narrow LU's lead to 26-24 with a little over six minutes left to play.
After
BJ Ward splashed in a 3-pointer from the top of the arc to bring the score to 32-29, the Lions answered with nine of the final 11 points to grab a 41-31 lead at the half.
Down, 54-42, following Markeith Browning II's 3-point play, SEMO used a 7-0 run to pull within five.
Washington, Jr. scored a layup,
Braxton Stacker nailed a three and Terry added a layup off a Stacker assist to trim LU's lead to 54-49 with 10:13 remaining.
SEMO continued to chip away and closed the Lions margin to 60-56 after Terry made a layup, was fouled and tacked on a free throw with 4:23 to go.
But LU responded with the next five points, including a 3-pointer by Anias Futrell to widen its margin to nine.
Still not finished, Martin buried a 3-pointer of his own and followed that with up with a layup to close the Lions lead to 65-61 with a 2:32 on the clock.
Terry then broke free for a layup off Martin's pass to make it a one-possession game at 66-63.
LU, which missed 12 free throws in its first 26 attempts of the game, made six of its final nine in the last 1:38 to hang on.
Terry shot 6-of-8 from the field and grabbed four rebounds. Martin and Washington, Jr. followed with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
BJ Ward chipped in 10 points, as well.
Futrell led all scorers with a game-high 20 points. Jadis Jones, this week's Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, finished with 15 points and six rebounds.
LU shot 20-of-35 at the free throw line and outscored SEMO (11-of-14) by a +9 margin in that category.
The Redhawks dropped their last three games at Hyland Arena by a combined 11 points.
