Redhawks Fall to Little Rock, 73-71, in Thriller Tuesday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri (9-9, 4-3) stormed back to tie the game in the final seconds, but Jonathan Lawson made a jumper with 1.1 seconds left to send Little Rock (10-7, 4-2) to a 73-71 victory in a thriller at the Show Me Center Tuesday.

SEMO trailed 63-53 when it put together a 13-6 run down the stretch.

Rob Martin made two free throws before stealing the ball and scoring on a jumper in the paint to close LR's lead to 69-66 with 57 seconds.

After Lawson answered with two free throws for the Trojans, Stacker was fouled and sunk both of his shots to get SEMO within three again.

Tuongthach Gatkek missed two free throws and BJ Ward splashed in a 3-pointer from the corner off a pass by Martin to tie the game at 71-71 with 11 seconds on the clock.

Lawson then hit his game-winning jumper just outside the paint to his right.

SEMO had one last chance, but Martin's desperation halfcourt shot came off the back of the iron as time expired.

The Redhawks, who fell behind 13-0 in the opening 3:11 of the game, roared back with a 15-2 run to tie things up.

LR, which scored on its first four possessions, suddenly cooled off to miss nine shots and the Redhawks took advantage to quickly get back in the game.

An alleyoop dunk by Braxton Stacker off a pass from Martin snapped a 4:12 scoring drought for SEMO.

After Isaiah Lewis answered with a jumper, the Redhawks rattled off 13-straight points. Ward and Teddy Washington, Jr. each buried a 3-pointer.

Following a free throw by Washington, Jr., Brendan Terry made a hookshot, was fouled and completed a 3-point play to cut LR's lead to 15-12.

On SEMO's ensuing possession, Martin drained a 3-pointer to tie the game and a second-chance layup by Marqueas Bell gave the Redhawks their first lead of the night at 17-15 with 7:38 remaining in the first half.

A layup by Martin later pushed the Redhawks lead to 25-20 with 5:12 to play before the Trojans used a 12-0 surge to regain a 32-25 lead with 1:29 left to play.

LR then managed to build a 37-29 lead at the half.

Martin led SEMO with 19 points, while Terry and Washington, Jr. followed with 12 points apiece. The Redhawks outscored the Trojans, 42-36, in the second half.

SEMO also outrebounded LR, 32-30, and outscored the Trojans, 23-18, at the free throw line.

Lawson led all scorers with 28 points on 8-of-13 field goals. He made 5-of-7 from 3-point range and added 7-of-8 free throws, as well.

Tonight's crowd of 2,585 marked SEMO's biggest home attendance of the season thus far.

The Redhawks travel to Tennessee Tech Thursday.
