CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – After a one hour and 49-minute weather delay, Southeast Missouri (15-21, 9-6) rallied for four two-out runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in a 10-8 loss to Tennessee Tech (16-16, 7-8) Sunday afternoon.
SEMO posted its third series win of the season after sweeping TTU in a doubleheader.
When play resumed, SEMO stormed back with a fury.
Brittany Affolter walked and
Paige Halliwill ignited a two-out rally with a RBI-double to left center.
Marissa Peek followed with a double of her own and Halliwill scored. On the next play,
Aubrie Shore crushed a 2-1 pitch over the left field wall for her second home run of the season and just like that, the Redhawks were down just two runs.
TTU retired SEMO in order in the bottom of the seventh to hang on for the win.
Pitching was rocky out of the gate for both teams as each starter didn't get out of the first inning. TTU capitalized early scoring four runs on four hits to take advantage.
The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the top of the second with the help of a groundout and an error before SEMO started to chip away at TTU's lead.
SEMO got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Affolter hit a two-out single to score
Brooklyn Saysoff.
An inning later, Saysoff delivered a two-out base hit to score
Paige Halliwill, who began the inning with a double, making it a 6-2 contest.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Redhawks managed to get within two runs. Halliwill scored Affolter on a sacrifice fly and
Sydney Melton drove in
Sophie Schupp on a bunt single narrowing TTU's margin to 6-4.
The Golden Eagles countered with two runs in each of the next two innings.
S.J. Talley hit a two-RBI single to right field in the fifth and TTU scored one run on an error and another on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth to take a 10-4 lead.
SEMO collected 10 hits with Halliwill going 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI and a walk to lead the way. Saysoff and Affolter also chipped in two hits apiece.
Willow Van Haren (1-3) suffered the loss.
Emily York (6-2) picked up her sixth win of the season and Lennon Spicer tossed 1.1 scoreless no -hit innings to get her first save.
SEMO returns to action when it hosts Saint Louis on Apr. 10.
