CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
Paytience Holman pitched a complete game shutout and
Paige Halliwill added four hits with a walk-off home run to lead Southeast Missouri (23-22, 17-6) to a 6-0, 9-1, doubleheader sweep of Western Illinois (14-31, 4-19) Friday.
SEMO extended its Ohio Valley Conference winning streak to eight games and put WIU over 30 losses for the season. The Leathernecks are now on an 11-game losing streak.
Holman went the distance with five strikeouts and allowed only two hits to lead SEMO in its game one victory. She picked up her 12
th win during her seventh complete game and third shutout of the season.
While Holman tore through WIU's lineup, SEMO gave her a quick lead to work with.
Shortstop Raven Morrison committed an error on the first two plays of the game before
Kat Sackett delivered a two-RBI double and
Kynzie Wrigley followed with a run scoring single with two outs putting the Redhawks ahead, 3-0.
Abigail Rickermann ripped a two-out single to left and
Sydney Dennis scored in the home half of the second.
Halliwill knocked in two more runs on a two-out double in the top of the fourth to polish off the Leathernecks.
SEMO outhit WIU, 10-2. Rickermann went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and one RBI. Sackett added two hits and, two RBI and one run scored, and Halliwill had one hit, two RBI and a run.
Halliwill then fell a double shy of hitting for the cycle in game two. She finished at 3-for-4 with a single, triple and walk-off home run. Halliwill smacked her sixth home run of the season over the center field wall to end the nightcap in five innings.
SEMO put up four runs in the bottom of the second and never looked back.
Brooklyn Saysoff and Dennis both singled. Dennis later scored when
Brittany Affolter grounded out. Rickermann followed with a single to left to bring home
Tatum Gerwitz and Halliwill knocked in Rickermann on a triple to center.
Marissa Peek doubled and Halliwill scored to give the Redhawks a 4-1 advantage.
Dennis scored
Aubrie Shore on a sacrifice fly in the third and SEMO tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Redhawks loaded the bases with no outs and scored twice on a hit by pitch and once on a sacrifice fly to widen their lead to 8-1 before Halliwill put the game on ice with her blast in the fifth.
Tegan Livesay (3-3) was credited with the win. Livesay pitched 4.1 innings allowing one run on six hits. She struck out one and walked none, as well.
Offensively, SEMO registered 10 hits again. Peek joined Halliwill with multiple hits going 2-for-2 with a run scored and one RBI.
SEMO outhit WIU, 20-8, in the doubleheader.
