Redhawks at Tennessee Tech This Weekend
Southeast Missouri Baseball (19-18, 8-4 OVC) will travel to Ohio Valley Conference co-leading Tennessee Tech (23-14, 8-4 OVC) this weekend in a matchup between two first place teams in the conference. First pitch is slated for Friday, April 19, at 6 p.m. from Bush Stadium. Saturday will begin at 2 p.m. and the series will wrap-up on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.

Series History
Two longtime conference foes, SEMO & TTU will meet for the 96th, 97th, and 98th times this weekend in Cookeville, Tenn. The Redhawks hold a 60-45 record all-time over TTU and are currently on a four-game winning streak, dating back to May 27, 2022. SEMO swept the Golden Eagles in Cape Girardeau a season ago.

Last Time Out
SEMO traveled to Murray, Ky. in the midweek for a matchup with longtime rival Murray State and secured a 15-8 victory at Johnny Reagan Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Redhawks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the third inning beginning with an RBI single by third baseman Chance Resetich to score Ty Stauss. A passed ball would bring in Josh Cameron to score, allowing Resetich to move up. A two-RBI double by catcher Nolan Ackerman would score Resetich and Bryce Cannon (BB) to give SEMO the four-run advantage.
MSU would answer immediately with a pair of three-run home runs in the home half and after three, led 6-4.

A fielding error on MSU in the fourth inning allowed Michael Mugan to score and got SEMO within one before a huge eight run sixth inning for the Redhawks.

Third baseman Caleb Corbin led off the sixth inning with his first-of-two home runs in the game that sparked the multi-run inning. Back-to-back bases loaded walks, a bases clearing double by Keoni Coloma, Corbin's second RBI of the inning, and a Mugan RBI single put the Redhawks up 13-6.

Corbin's second home run of the game came in the eighth inning, this one a two-run shot, made it 15-7 heading to the final frame.

MSU would plate a single run in the ninth, but SEMO would hold on for the 15-8 victory and a season sweep of Murray State.

So Far
Ahead of the weekend, the Redhawks are one game above .500 on the season with a 19-18 record and an 8-4 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference. SEMO is 10-9 in the confines of Capaha Field and are 9-9 on the road in 2024. With Tuesday's win, the Redhawks have won 4-of-their-last-5 and are in the midst of a two-game winning streak.

OVC Series
The Redhawks and Golden Eagles play in a pivotal series this weekend as both teams sit atop the Ohio Valley Conference at 8-4. Both teams are tied with Little Rock for the conference's top spot. The Redhawks dropped 2-out-of-3 at Little Rock earlier this season for their only series loss of the season in league play. SEMO has taken the series from both SIUE & Southern Indiana and has swept Eastern Illinois earlier this year.

Welcome Back, Kyle Miller
RHP relief pitcher Kyle Miller, since returning last Tuesday (4/9), has now made three appearances out of the bullpen for the Redhawks including the final inning of Tuesday's victory in Murray, Ky. Miller, a Eureka, Mo.-native, has pitched 4.0 innings since his return and has not allowed a hit, run, or walk over that span. He has struck out four hitters and has nine total strikeouts on the season.

Caleb Corbin
Third baseman Caleb Corbin registered his first SEMO career multi-home run day on Tuesday afternoon with a solo and a two-run home run against the Racers. Corbin has started in four-straight games for the Redhawks and has recorded eight hits in those games. On the season he is batting .394 with three home runs and 16 RBIs.

Double-Digit Hits
SEMO's offense has been seeing the ball well to the tune of three-straight games with double digit hits, including 16 on Tuesday afternoon. As a team, SEMO's batting average is .294 with a slugging-percentage of .502. The Redhawks have 376 hits to their opponents 350 on the season.

Payton Lawrence
RHP Payton Lawrence has made his return to the pitching staff, making two consecutive Tuesday starts including another perfect 2.0 innings at Murray State. The Dixon, Ill.-native started against Southern Illinois (4/9) and Murray State (4/16) and has pitched 4.0 innings of hitless, scoreless baseball. He has struck out two hitters and surrendered just three walks in his outings.

Home Runs
Infielder Caleb Corbin's two home run game on Tuesday provided SEMO with their 60th & 61st home runs of the season. Short stop Ben Palmer still leads the club with his 11 homers and is the only Redhawk in double-digits in the category.
