CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri Baseball (18-18, 8-4 OVC) picked up a series-clinching win on Sunday afternoon over Southern Indiana (15-21, 5-7 OVC) by a final score of 12-2 in seven innings.
The Redhawks pounded out 13 hits to score the 12 runs, downing USI with the run-rule victory, led by left fielder
Ty Stauss. Stauss crushed a three-run home run in the third inning to open the game up. Stauss finished 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs.
Five Redhawks finished with multi-hit days as
Caleb Corbin,
Brooks Kettering,
Shea McGahan, and Stauss all had two or more hits. Corbin recorded his team-leading fourth triple of the season, finishing 3-for-4 at the plate.
RHP
Brian Strange (4-2) picked up his fourth win of the season on Sunday. Strange, who allowed just one first inning run, allowed just the run on two hits in 5.0 innings of work. He punched out five Screaming Eagles in the outing.
USI got on the board first in the first inning with an RBI single by Tucker Ebest, but they could only muster one more run after leading 1-0 after the opening frame.
A two-run, second inning by SEMO gave the Redhawks the lead. Cameron's ninth home run of the season put SEMO on the board, and an RBI double by
Shea McGahan that scored Corbin from second base gave the Redhawks a 2-1 lead after the second inning.
Stauss' bomb in the third inning was responsible for all three runs in the inning. His blast came with
Michael Mugan and
Ben Palmer on base, Stauss launched the ball to right field off RHP Carson Seeman to put SEMO up 5-1.
Back-to-back innings with a three-run home run, Mugan hit the third blast of the game to score Kettering and
Keoni Coloma off of LHP Will Kiesel to make it 8-1 Redhawks.
Four more runs in the seventh inning allowed the Redhawks to utilize the Ohio Valley Conference 'Get Away' run-rule and won the game, 12-2.

SEMO Baseball will be back in action on Tuesday, April 16, when they take on Murray State. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m., CT. at Johnny Reagan Field in Murray, Ky.
