Series History
USI holds a 27-25 all-time series lead over SEMO coming into the 53rd, 54th, and 55th meetings between the two schools. In USI's first season in the OVC, the Redhawks went to Evansville, Ind. and took two-out-of-three from USI in 2023.

Last Time Out
The Redhawks picked up a big win over the middle of the week on Tuesday night against longtime rival, Southern Illinois, by a final score of 3-2 in eleven innings in Carbondale, Ill.
RHP Payton Lawrence pitched the first 2.0 innings of the ballgame in his return after a brief absence and was sharp to the tune of allowing no runs and no hits. He struck out two Salukis out of the six he faced.

SIU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the game's third inning with a two-RBI base hit by Saluki first baseman, Trey Cutchen, off RHP Tommy WIndt.

The Redhawks would finally piece together some offense in the top of the sixth inning where a bases-loaded two-RBI single by SEMO center fielder, Michael Mugan, would tie the game heading to the seventh inning.

After SIU scored, the Redhawks bullpen had its most impressive outing of the season retiring 22 SIU hitters in a row which spanned from the fourth inning to the 10th inning. LHP Ethan Osborne, RHP Gavin Johnston, RHP Kyle Miller, and LHP Alex Hayes all pitched and combined to allow no SIU hits or runs in the games final innings.

Hayes picked up his first save of the season after a bases loaded walk to Brooks Kettering in the 11th inning, made it 3-2 Redhawks for the win.

Under the Radar
Left fielder Ty Stauss is putting together a great year for the Redhawks and has been one of the most consistent players in the lineup thus far. Stauss, a senior from Wildwood, Mo., is third on the club in slugging percentage (.578), fifth in runs scored (24), fifth in hits (31), first in doubles (8), second in walks (19), and fourth in RBIs (27). Stauss missed most of 2023 with an injury.

Redhawks Bullpen
On Tuesday, four of SEMO's relievers combined for a seven-inning no-hitter to help keep the game tied against Southern Illinois. Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning, LHP Ethan Osborned began a trend that would last the duration of the game as he pitched 2.0 flawless innings of baseball. RHP Gavin Johnston, followed by RHP Kyle Miller each delivered their own 2.0 innings of perfection. LHP Alex Hayes closed the game in the 11th inning and picked up his first save. Hayes allowed no runs on two hits.

A pair of right handers in Grant Parson and Gavin Morris lead the way. Parson has a team-best 4.50 ERA and Morris leads the club with 37 strikeouts.
