Shore's Five-Hit Day Propels Redhawks to OVC Opening Split with Eastern Illinois

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – First baseman Aubrie Shore had five hits and three doubles to lead Southeast Missouri (5-15, 1-1) to a doubleheader split with Eastern Illinois (13-8, 1-1) Saturday in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams. SEMO took game two, 9-4, after dropping a 7-4 decision in extra innings.

SEMO overcame an early two-run deficit with a four-run first inning and never turned back to earn its first OVC win in the nightcap.

Brooklyn Saysoff led off with a single to right field and Shore singled to left. Kat Sackett followed with a double to center and Saysoff scored. Paige Halliwill drew a one-out walk Brittany Affolter hit into a fielder's choice allowing Shore to touch home. Sophie Schupp knocked in two more runs on a two-out double putting the Redhawks ahead, 4-2.

EIU managed to get within a run in the top of the third, but SEMO countered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and another two in the sixth to finish off the Panthers.

Affolter delivered a two-RBI hit and Schupp drove in Halliwill on a base hit to left in the fifth. An inning later, Halliwill brought home SEMO's last two runs of the day on her first triple of the season.

Tegan Livesay (1-3) picked up her first career win in the circle. Livesay worked five innings allowing four runs on four hits. She also struck out one.

Olivia Price (4-6) suffered the loss. SEMO roughed up Price for seven runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings of work. Price struck out three, as well.

The Redhawks tallied a season-high 12 hits in their second double-digit hit game of the year. Shore, Sackett and Schupp each paved the way with two hits. Tori Bradley and Halliwill scored twice apiece and Affolter and Schupp turned in three RBI.

Shore went 3-for-6 with two doubles, three runs scored and one RBI, and Saysoff contributed three hits of her own in a marathon game one.

SEMO and EIU duked it out for three hours and 25 minutes before a winner was decided in the 12th inning.

Tied, 3-3, the Panthers scored four runs in the top of the 12th to edge the Redhawks.

Shore ripped a one-out line drive that hit the top of the left field wall and stayed in the ballpark for a double in the home half of the 12th. Saysoff's two-out single knocked in Shore for SEMO's final run in that contest.

SEMO led 3-1 before EIU tied the game on a two-run home run by Kendall Grover in the top of the fourth inning.

McKenzie Oslanzi (8-1) pitched all 12 innings giving up four runs on nine hits and striking out seven along the way. Oslanzi threw a total of 174 pitches in her complete game victory.

Maddie Carney (0-3) was credited with the loss. Carney at one time retired 12 in a row in her strong performance out of the bullpen. She tossed 6.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.

SEMO won a program record 30-straight home games prior to its extra inning loss to the Panthers. The Redhawks are 31-1 in their last 32 games at the Southeast Softball Complex.

The multi-hit day put Shore over 100 career hits. She now has 102 hits as one of two Redhawks on the roster with more than 100 hits.

SEMO and EIU wrap up their series at 1 p.m., CT Sunday.
