Doyle Drops Career-High 31 Points, Redhawks Fall 76-66 Thursday Night to Tennessee Tech

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Sophomore guard Alecia Doyle dropped a career-high 31 points as Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (6-16, 3-8 OVC) fell 76-66 to Tennessee Tech (10-12, 5-6 OVC) Thursday night at the Show-Me Center. 
 
Doyle, who scored eight straight points in the fourth quarter, finished the night on a 12-23 shooting performance and was an impressive 4-6 from three-point land. Doyle was the lone Redhawk in double figures in the contest.
 
As a team, SEMO shot the ball at a 46-percent clip (27-59) and was exactly 50-percent from three-point range (5-10), led by Doyle. 
 
The Redhawks struggled at the free-throw line during Thursday's contest, shooting just 38-percent (7-18) compared to TTU who finished 15-17 from the charity stripe (15-17). 
 
TTU was led by guard Peyton Carter who finished with a team-high 19 points. The Golden Eagles had three players finish in double-digits including Carter, Maaliya Owens (18), and Anna Walker (14). 
 
The Redhawks lost the battle on the glass by just four, 33-29, but hauled in more offensive rebounds than TTU, converting them into six points. 
 
For the second straight game, SEMO started the scoring in Thursday's contest. Freshman guard Indiya Bowen grabbed a defensive rebound, then on the other end connected on a layup to give the Redhawks a 2-0 lead early. 
 
Back-and-forth in the first quarter, TTU would respond with a layup of their own from Anna Walker at the 8:48 mark. 
 
A jumper from Alecia Doyle and a TTU three-pointer made the score 5-4 early as both teams continued to trade baskets through the first five minutes. 
 
Trailing 8-7 after Bowen's second basket of the contest, TTU would go on a 7-0 run to grab a 13-8 lead with 3:45 left in the quarter. 
 
The Redhawks would score two more baskets in the quarter, one coming from a Megan Barton layup after nice ball movement on the offensive end. Jaliyah Green made a pullup jumper at the free-throw line to cut TTU's lead to 14-12 with just over a minute to go in the first. 


A three-pointer by TTU's Peyton Carter closed the quarter with the Golden Eagles leading 17-12. 
 
 The Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the second quarter with a three-pointer by Maaliya Owens.
 
The Redhawks would respond with a nice setup by Jaliyah Green who found Amiyah Buchanan under the basket for the easy lay-in. SEMO trailed 20-14 with 8:42 left before half. 
 
A quick 5-0 run by TTU would give the Golden Eagles a 13-point lead before a pair of Bowen free-throws found the bottom of the net. Jaliyah Green would get the Redhawks back within single digits with a layup off a TTU turnover with 6:51 left in the half. 
 
Another Owens field goal got TTU back up to 11 before a beautiful corner three-pointer from Alecia Doyle got the Redhawks to within eight, the closest they had been since the beginning of the quarter. 
 
The Golden Eagles would use a 16-8 run over the half's final four minutes to build their lead to 45-29, but the Redhawks closed the half with back-to-back Michaela Mayfield layups. At the half, SEMO trailed 45-33. 
 
SEMO shot 14-29 from the field in the first half (48-percent) and were exactly 40-percent from three-point range (2-5). Alecia Doyle and Jaliyah Green were the Redhawks' leading scorer(s) with seven points apiece. 
 
TTU was 18-37 from the field (49-percent) and shot an impressive 43-percent from three. Peyton Carter had a game-high 17 points at the end of the first half, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor, and 5-for-5 from three. 
 
The Golden Eagles outrebounded the Redhawks 20-12 and converted five offensive rebounds into 14 second-chance points. TTU dominated the paint with 24 points in the paint to 18 from SEMO. 
 
Amiyah Buchanan got the Redhawks on the board to start the second half off a nice feed from Bowen to get the Redhawks to within 10 points, nine seconds into the half.
 
A three-pointer from TTU's Anna Walker sparked a 12-2 run over the next three minutes, giving the Golden Eagles a 57-37 lead before SEMO responded with a layup from Alecia Doyle
 
The Redhawks trailed by as many as 23 in the third quarter, but closed the quarter on an 8-2 run, capped off by a Doyle three-pointer to trim the TTU lead to 15 at the end of three. 
 
Buchanan opened the scoring again for the Redhawks to start the fourth quarter off her own offensive rebound. The basket led to eight straight points from Alecia Doyle
 
The Redhawks started the fourth quarter on 10-0 run to cut the TTU lead to just five. TTU's Maaliya Owens halted the run with a pair of free-throws and led 67-60 with 5:22 left in the contest. 
 
Doyle wasted no time after the free throws, knocking down a three-pointer to get the Redhawks to within four, the closest they had been since the start of the contest. 
 
The next minute of the game saw no scoring, before TTU's Owens drained a big three-pointer to extend the lead back to seven, sparking a quick 5-0 TTU run. A turnover from SEMO led to a Reghan Grimes hookshot to give TTU a 72-63 lead with 3:30 left. 
 
The Redhawks registered three more points in the contest, falling 76-66 on Thursday night. 
 
Looking Ahead
SEMO will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 10, when they take on Tennessee State. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. from the Show-Me Center.
