CHARLESTON, Ill. – Freshman
Marqueas Bell scored a season-high 17 points to lead Southeast Missouri (8-18, 3-10) in a 75-57 loss to Eastern Illinois (12-14, 6-7) Thursday night at Lantz Arena.
EIU snapped a streak of six-consecutive losses to SEMO in the all-time series between the teams.
Earley's dunk off an
Aquan Smart pass grabbed SEMO an early 4-1 edge less than two minutes into the contest before EIU scored the next nine points to get ahead, 10-4.
The Panthers put together a 10-0 run to push its lead to 24-10. Kyndall Davis gave EIU its first double-digit lead and finished with a dunk two possessions later.
SEMO managed to cut EIU's lead to eight with the help of a 6-0 surge.
Evan Eursher drained a 3-pointer to end a three-minute scoreless span for the Redhawks. Earley followed with three points to drop the score to 24-16 with 8:43 left.
The Redhawks found themselves behind, 35-20, at halftime. SEMO missed 11 of its last 12 shots and did not score for the final 3:58 of the opening stanza.
Rob Martin made a 3-pointer to get SEMO within 10 (47-37) at the 14:33 mark of the second half, but EIU didn't let its lead fall below double figures.
Bell shot 6-of-11 from the field, made one 3-pointer and added 4-of-4 free throws in 27 minutes off the bench.
Earley followed with 15 points and eight rebounds for his 12
th double-digit scoring effort this season.
SEMO shot 35.6 percent (21-of-59) from the field and committed 14 turnovers.
Davis registered a game-high 26 points and nine rebounds to lead three Panthers in double figures.
The Redhawks stay on the road to face SIU Edwardsville Saturday afternoon.
