Halliwill and Shore Homer in Redhawks 5-4 Win Over Stony Brook

MIAMI Paige Halliwill and Aubrie Shore each hit a home run and freshmen Willow Van Haren, Maddie Carney and Tegan Livesay combined for four no-hit shutout innings to send Southeast Missouri (3-2) to a 5-4 win over Stony Brook (1-4) Sunday morning.

After SEMO fell behind, 2-0, in the top of the first inning, Halliwill belted a two-run home run to right center to tie the game in the bottom half of the frame. For Halliwill, it was her team-high second homer this season.

SBU regained a 3-2 edge in the second when Brooke Dye singled and a throwing error on the next play gave the Seawolves runners at second and third. Following a Alicia Orosco walk, Kyla McFarland hit into a fielder's choice and Alyssa Costello struck out before Corinne Badger walked in a run with the bases loaded.

Then, in the bottom of the third, Shore delivered the biggest blow of the game.

Sydney Dennis led off with a hit for the second-straight time when she singled through the right side to start the bottom of the third. Halliwill walked behind her and Shore drove the third pitch of her at-bat over the center field wall putting SEMO ahead, 5-3. It was the first home run of the season for Shore, the reigning Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year.

With two outs in the top half of the fourth inning, Costello scored Emily Reinstein to make it a one-run ballgame.

Van Haren threw one scoreless inning before giving way to Carney in the fifth. She pitched perfect innings in the fifth and sixth. Livesay took over in the seventh and retired the side to nail down the win.

Delaney Kell (1-0), who got SEMO out of a bases loaded jam with a strikeout in the second inning, was credited with her first victory in relief. Kell tossed 1.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

Livesay earned her first career save with her 1-2-3 seventh.

Dennis went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Halliwill finished at 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Shore, who posted seven hits in the tournament, went 1-for-2 with a run and three RBI.

Dennis, Halliwill and Shore accounted for four of the Redhawks five hits out of the top three spots in the lineup.

SEMO posted a third-place showing at the four-team Felsberg Invitational.

The Redhawks return to action at the Southeastern Louisiana Lion Classic Feb. 16-18.
