Basketball Returned to Houck Field House for Houckamania Thursday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri, which played its final basketball season at Houck Field House in 1986-87, returned to its iconic facility for a one-of-a-kind Houckamania spectacle presented by Lawless Harley Davidson Thursday night.
SEMO's men's and women's basketball teams were introduced in the middle of a vintage style wrestling theme inspired by the legendary Hulk Hogan.
The night began with introductions of coaches and players from both squads ahead of this upcoming 2024-25 season. Coaches and players entered the court area through a tunnel with special effects and walkout songs piping through the speakers.
After that, the teams participated in a 3-on-3 exhibition, 3-point shootout and dunk contest.
Zoe Best, Sophie Bussard and Lexi McCully competed in the women's 3-point contest and Rob Martin, Teddy Washington Jr. and BJ Ward went head-to-head on the men's side. Best and Ward advanced to the mixed final round and Ward claimed the overall 3-point title with 15 makes.
Brendan Terry, Troy Cole Jr., Damarion Walkup and TJ Biel squared off in the dunk contest that took place in front of guest judges SEMO Head Football Coach Tom Matukewicz, Head Volleyball Coach Julie Yankus, Student Body President Lydia Pobst, Associate Vice President for Student Life Bruce Skinner and Buddy Cheek representing Lawless Harley Davidson.
Biel and Walkup moved on to the finals. Biel was crowned champion after he soared over a Harley Davidson motorcycle to throw down an electrifying two-handed jam.
Gunnar Knudtson served as the emcee for the complete slate of activities which also included a sumo wrestling match between head coaches Brad Korn and Briley Palmer.
SEMO's men's basketball team tips off its season at Bradley on Nov. 4 and the women's team travels to Dayton on Nov. 5.
