EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Senior
Kayla Closset led the Redhawks attack as Southeast Missouri Volleyball (11-3, 3-0 OVC) swept SIUE (6-8, 0-3 OVC) in Edwardsville on Friday night.
Closset finished the night with 15 kills on 32 attacks for a .344 hitting-percentage including a team-high 17 points. She finished with a service ace, two block assists, and five digs.
The Redhawks won the match 27-25, 26-24, and 25-20 to improve to 3-0 in league play in 2023.
As a team, SEMO hit an impressive .298 to the tune of 47 total kills on 121 attacks. On the defensive side of the net, the Redhawks finished with seven blocks and 50 digs led by middle blocker
Marisa Guisti and libero
Tara Beilsmith, respectively.
Guisti made an impact on the offensive side of the net, finishing with five kills on just 11 attacks for a .455 clip.
Tara Beilsmith, the active leader in the NCAA in digs, wrapped up the three-set match with 25 digs as SIUE hit just .243 on the evening.
The reigning OVC Co-Setter of the Week,
Izzy Lukens, led to the offensive onslaught Friday night with 37 assists. She finished with three kills herself and six digs.
Lucy Arndt finished her night with 13 kills on 34 total attempts (team-high) for a .324 hitting percentage. Arndt was the OVC Co-Freshman of the Week and continued her impressive season.
Friday night's win is the second-straight sweep from the Redhawks on the season having previously swept Morehead State last weekend (9/23).
SEMO will return to action tomorrow to conclude the season-series with SIUE. First serve is slated for 2 p.m., CT. in Edwardsville.
