Volleyball Finishes 3-0 in Kansas City, Beats Austin Peay 3-1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Southeast Missouri volleyball (8-3) picked up their eighth win of the season on Saturday by a final score of 3-1 over Austin Peay (7-6) to conclude non-conference play with a perfect 3-0 record at the KC Roos Classic. 
 
Freshman Lucy Arndt was selected as the tournament's most valuable player for her performance over the weekend. Setter Izzy Lukens and libero Tara Beilsmith were also selected to the all-tournament team following Saturday's match. 
 
SEMO secured the victory with a 25-13, 23-25, 25-19, and 25-15 performance as the Redhawks, much like last night's match, dominated APSU in the fourth set for the victory. 
 
In the 4th set alone, the Redhawks registered 19 kills on 32 total attacks for a game-high .594 hitting percentage compared to APSU with .308. 
 
Three Redhawks finished in double-digit kills led by freshman Lucy Arndt who finished with 19 kills from 39 total attacks. Arndt finished with a .436 hitting-percentage. 
 
Seniors Kayla Closset and Marisa Guisti finished with 14 and 12 kills, respectively. The two combined for 54 attacks and finished with a .481 combined hitting-percentage. 
 
Setter Izzy Lukens wrapped-up her final match of the tournament with another unbelievable performance, registering 51 assists bringing her total to an impressive 136 for the weekend earning her a spot on the all-tournament team. 
 
Both Lukens and Tara Beilsmith were stout defensively, leading the Redhawks in digs. Lukens finished with 11 digs from the setter position, including a block assist. Beilsmith concluded her final game of the tournament with 16 digs and six assists. 
 
As a team, SEMO finished with a .372 hitting percentage, registering 63 kills on 137 total attacks. The Redhawks had a tournament and season-high 10 service aces as well, led by freshman Nina Schuberth with three.
 
The Redhawks will begin Ohio Valley Conference play next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22-23 as they host Morehead State. First serve is slated for 6 p.m., CT. next Friday at Houck Field House.
