CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's soccer (1-1-1) played to a 0-0 draw on Thursday night against Evansville (0-0-2) in front of a crowd of 386 at Houck Field.
SEMO wasted no time registering their first shot of the match within the first five minutes of the game. Freshman
Emily Baker possessed the ball in the box, turned, and fired a shot that was saved by UE goalkeeper Myia Danek.
Baker made her second-straight start of the 2023 season and finished the match with 60-minutes played. She finished with five shots with two on-target to lead the Redhawks in the categories.
Five different Redhawks registered a shot in the contest including
Megan Heisserer (1 SOG),
Melissa Kubin,
Zoe Houston (1 SOG),
Maddie Paulson (1 SOG), and Baker.
SEMO outshot the Purple Aces 11-6 after trailing in shots at the halftime break (3-2).
Three Redhawks played the full 90 on Thursday evening as
Emma Brune,
Natalie Jackson, and goalkeeper
Sophia Elfrink completed the match.
Elfrink recorded one save on the evening after facing six total shots for her first clean sheet of the season.
Evansville's Myia Danek registered five saves, four in the second half, and kept the score at zeros as the Redhawks continued to fire at the keeper.
Ella Hamner of UE was assessed a yellow card in the 11
th minute after pulling down
Melissa Kubin in the midfield.
SEMO will be back in action on Sunday, August 27 when they take on regional rival Southern Illinois in Carbondale, Ill. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
