JACKSON, Mo. - Southeast Missouri women's soccer took on Missouri-St. Louis this evening in their second exhibition game of the season. The Redhawks tied the Tritons 1-1 at the Jackson Junior High School soccer field.
The Redhawks notched 17 shots with ten of them being on target while the Tritons registered eight shots with three on goal.
SEMO posted seven of their 17 shots in the first half compared to the Tritons three. The Tritons held the advantage, 8-7, on corner kicks for the contest.
Justi Nelson took the first on target shot of the game in the 11th minute into the bottom center of the net but was saved by Goalie Mary Kate Neal.
Sophia Elfrink notched her save in the 22nd minute, stopping the shot of Kendyll Louis Feiste.
The first goal of the game came from UMSL's Jaycee Cotton with a shot to the top left corner in the 29th minute of the first half off of a free kick.
Sophomore
Cayla Koerner tied the game in the dying seconds of the first half. Koerner slotted the ball into the bottom right corner to tie it at 1-1 at the break.
Emma Brune took SEMO's first shot of the second period in the 61st minute but was saved by UMSL goalkeeper Mary Kate Neal.
At 88:12,
Faith Liljegren registered a shot that was once again saved as the Redhawks struck three shots in the game's final six minutes.
Justi Nelson had the game's final chance with a shot to the bottom left of the net in the 90th minute of the game and saved. The shot was Nelson's fifth of the game and fourth on target.
Goalkeepers Sofia Elfrink and
Madison Geisler each registered one save a piece. Elfrink's in the first half, with Geisler's in the second. UMSL's Mary Kate Neal totaled eight in the game.
Southeast Missouri State soccer will open regular season play this Thursday in Columbia, Mo. against Missouri at 6:00 p.m. from Audrey J. Walton Soccer Stadium.
