OXFORD, Ala. – #1 Southeast Missouri (29-14) ended its season with a 4-0 loss to #5 SIU Edwardsville (28-25) Friday afternoon at the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
SEMO finished its 2023 campaign as the OVC Regular-Season Champion for the eighth time in program history and third since 2019.
Sydney Baalman pitched a complete game shutout with six strikeouts and held the Redhawks to 0-for-6 at the plate with runners on base. SEMO left 10 runners on for the game.
SIUE seized the early lead when cleanup hitter Grace Lueke hit a two-run home run to left center with two outs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Cougars' other two runs came in the bottom of the fifth on a single by Lexi King. King later stole home for the final tally of the 4-0 win.
SEMO did not have a runner make it past second base in the contest.
Offensively, the Redhawks outhit the Cougars, 9-7.
Kat Sackett went 2-for-3, while seven others had a hit. All of SEMO's hits were singles.
Paytience Holman (6-9) was charged with the loss. Holman gave up two runs on two hits and walked two in two innings.

Marisa Davis each pitched two innings of relief behind Holman.
