Redhawks Drop OVC Tournament Opener to #4 UT Martin

OXFORD, Ala. Jillian Anderson and Kat Sackett each had two hits as #1 Southeast Missouri (28-13) fell to #4 UT Martin (23-23), 7-0, Thursday afternoon at the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

UTM scored twice in the second and third innings and got two of its runs with the help of two Redhawk errors.

Maddi Long singled and Avry Blume reached on an error in the top of the second. After both runners advanced on a passed ball, Kaci Fuller singled and Long scored the game's first run. Anna Hazelwood grounded out and Blume scored to put the Skyhawks ahead, 2-0.

With a runner on after a one-out error, UTM added to its lead with a two-RBI double by Blume to make it a 4-0 ballgame in the third.

Kiersten Nixon started the fourth inning with a solo home run out of the eighth spot in the Skyhawks lineup giving UTM a 5-0 advantage.

UTM pinch runner Anna Blanton was initially called out when Sackett tagged her at the plate in the sixth inning. After the umpires conferred, the call was overturned and the Skyhawks were awarded a run on an obstruction.

Blume's solo home run ended all scoring in the top of the seventh.
