PADUCAH, Ky. – Southeast Missouri (13-2) collected a program record 12
th-straight victory when it beat Arkansas State (1-12), 6-1, Wednesday.
SEMO surpassed its previous record 11-match winning streak done during the 2021 campaign.
Ahead, 1-0, after claiming wins in the top two spots of its doubles lineup, the Redhawks came away with victories in five of the six singles positions. SEMO is late in its third-consecutive winning season under Head Coach
Mary Beth Gunn and hasn't lost in just over two months.
All but one of the singles matchups were decided in three sets.
At No. 1,
Daniela Hlacikova edged Sarah Millard, 7-5, 0-6, 6-4 to pick up her team-high 13
th singles victory. Hlacikova has won nine of her last 10 singles bouts and improved to 13-2 with a near-perefect 10-1 mark in the top spot this spring.
After dropping the first set,
Romana Tarajova regrouped to take down Rebecca Brody, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 behind Hlacikova at No. 2. Tarajova claimed her fifth-straight win and 11th overall in dual play.
Vivian Lai was the only Redhawk who won in straight sets when she defeated Abigail Thurmer, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 4 spot.
Meanwhile, after Trinity Calinescu and
Teona Velkoska dropped their first sets, both battle back to beat their opponents. Calinescu, who has won nine singles matches in a row, upended Yasmine Hubert, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 5 and Velkoska downed Anna Borovinskaya, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1, to round out singles action in the No. 6 position.
SEMO, which has two matches remaining this regular season, returns to Ohio Valley Conference action when it travels to Southern Indiana Friday.
