Redhawks Head to Columbia For Final Regular Season Meet at Missouri

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics will head to Columbia, Mo. to compete at Southeastern Conference member Missouri at the Hearnes Center on Friday, Mar. 15. Friday's meet will be a quad-meet featuring the host-Missouri, Mid-American Conference (MAC)-member Ball State, and Atlantic Coast Conference-member North Carolina. Competition is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m., CT.
 
MIC Weekly Honors
Lindsay Ockler and Nyah Reader took home a pair of awards on Wednesday. Ockler received Co-Gymnast of the Week while Reader earned Performance of the Week by the Midwest Independent Conference, the league announced Wednesday morning. 
 
After missing last week's meet with an injury, Lindsay Ockler bounced back in a big way for the Redhawks on Friday night with two really impressive scores. Ockler led the Redhawks on the Vault rotation with a 9.875, and led the Redhawks on the Bars with a 9.850.
 
Nyah Reader got the second highest score on the floor routine for the Redhawks Friday night against Illinois State with a 9.850. Reader, a Sophomore from Rexford, New York, also led the Redhawks on the Beam with a 9.825 from the sixth spot in the lineup.
 
For both athletes the award is their first of the season. 
 
 
Last Time Out
Southeast Missouri gymnastics registered a 195.000 on Friday night's meet, but fell to Illinois State who registered a 195.025 on Senior night at Houck Field House. 
 
Head Coach Ashley Lawson on what Senior Night meant to the team: "Tonight was a very emotional night for the girls. When you have six seniors that have given so much to this program, you realize the impact that they have on their teammates and myself as a coach. I was happy that we came out and put on a great performance, in front of a great crowd, to send our seniors out the right way." 
 
Sophomore Madison Greene registered a career-best on the floor from the sixth-slot as she registered a 9.925, surpassing her previous best of 9.875. 
 
The Redhawks registered a 49.250 on the floor for their highest rotation team score, with Greene's 9.925, and three 9.850s from Lindsey Moffitt, Nyah Reader, and Taylor Ingle
 
Senior Molly Maxwell, in her final regular season meet at Houck Field House, registered a 9.775 in the second-slot for the rotation. 
 
Freshman Taylor Ingle started off the night for SEMO on the Vault as the Coppell, Texas-native registered a 9.700. 
 
Lindsay Ockler was back in rotation for SEMO after missing last week with an injury, and hit a 9.875 from the sixth spot. Greene hit a 9.825 before Ockler in fifth to round out the Redhawks top-three scorers. 
 
Back-to-back-to-back 9.800s from Nyah Reader, Lydia Webb, and Janelle Lopez, and the Redhawks were off and running with a 49.100 team score after rotation one. 
 
The Redhawks moved to the uneven bars, where the 2022 defending MIC Bars Champions Lindsay Ockler and Jolie Miller registered a 9.850 and a 9.750, respectively to lead the Redhawks on the second rotation. 
 
Janelle Lopez hit a 9.750 as well, and Lindsey Moffitt hit a 9.725 to round-out the Redhawks top scorers as SEMO moved to the Beam in the third rotation. 
 
Sophomore Nyah Reader led the Redhawks on Beam with a 9.825, nearly tying her top Beam score of the season (9.875). 
 
Senior Lindsey Moffitt registered the second-highest beam score with a 9.775 and junior Lydia Webb rounded out the top-three scores with a 9.625. 
 
The Redhawks had a running score of 145.750 going into the final rotation. 
 
ISU registered their best score of the evening as a team on the floor rotation (49.225) and the vault rotation (49.200) to register a 195.025, narrowly escaping with a victory on Friday evening.
 
Scouting the Opponent
Missouri
Missouri, currently sitting with a record of 7-3, looks to continue their dominance this season as they host their second straight meet. 
 
Riding a three meet win streak, the Tigers have recorded over 197.000 in each meet, obtaining this feat for the first time since 2004. Missouri has a record of 3-1 at home meets this season averaging 197.025 in those matches. 
 
Mizzou holds a 15-0 record against the Redhawks winning their most recent meet on Jan. 4, 2020 by a score 191.275-195.600.
 
Last time out for the Tigers they faced off against Alabama in their "Pink Out" meet where they won 197.075-196.750.
 
Mizzou's top performers in their last meet:
  • Vault- Amari Celestine (9.875)
  • Bars-Jocelyn Moore (9.925) 
  • Beam- Helen Hu posted the second highest score in the event overall with a (9.950). 
  • Floor- The Tigers recorded a 49.475 overall team score, led by Alisa Sheremeta recording (9.925).
 
Ball State
Ball State with a record of 14-4 overall, will compete in the Quad-Meet, while facing the Redhawks for a third time this season.
 
The Cardinals, currently on a 12-game winning streak, hold a record of 6-2 at neutral matches and a 3-2 record on the road. Over their past seven meets, Ball State has averaged a team score of 196.200
 
Ball State has faced the Redhawks twice this season, beating SEMO both times with the most recent win coming on Jan. 29. 2023 with a score of 196.300-194.700. The Cardinals hold the advantage over the Redhawks by a record of 6-1 all-time.
 
Last time out for Ball State they defeated fellow MAC-opponent Bowling Green, in Bowling Green, Ohio by a score of 196.375-196.000. 
 
Cardinals posted a 49.300 on the Floor event which is currently a season high for the team, they also tied the program record on vault, scoring a 49.250 for the second time this season. Ball State recorded a 49.150 on the Bars event during the meet and finished out on the Beam with a 48.675. 
 
Junior Hannah Ruthberg led Ball State in the all-around, scoring a 39.275 for the second time this season and the third time in her career. The effort, which included a career-best 9.875 on vault, a 9.850 on bars, a 9.825 on floor, and a 9.725 on beam, ties as the eight-best in program history.
 
North Carolina
UNC with a current record of 14-4 will be the fourth school in the Quad-Meet. Just like Mizzou, the Tar Heels are searching for their fourth-straight win late in the season.  
 
North Carolina holds a 6-2 record in neutral sites with an even 2-2 record in away matches. Over their three-meet winning streak, they have averaged 196.000.
 
This will be the first meet that the Redhawks and UNC will face off coming from a neutral site. In the ACC, UNC has a record of 6-0.
 
Last time out for UNC came against Air Force on Mar. 3, 2023. UNC outscored Air Force by a score of 196.475-193.850 in Chapel Hill, NC., in the Carmichael Arena. 
 
In the Tar Heels home finale they recorded a new season best of 196.475 and posted a 49.000 or higher in all events for the first time this season while holding the top score at each event. 
 
On Vault, UNC obtained an even 49.000. On Bars they recorded a 49.225. 
 
On the Beam and Floor, the Tarheels rounded out the met with a 49.050 and a 49.200, respectively,  to finish out their last home meet. 
 
Looking Ahead
After the Quad-Meet in Columbia, Mo, the Redhawks will host the Midwest Independent Conference Championships at Houck Field House. Competition is slated to begin on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 5 p.m., CT. in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
