Kell Pitches Gem as Redhawks Shutout Mount St. Mary's, 1-0

OXFORD, Miss. – Delaney Kell pitched a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts leading Southeast Missouri (6-5) to a 1-0 win over Mount St. Mary's (2-6) Saturday afternoon at the Ole Miss Classic.

A native of Salem, Illinois, Kell threw the first complete game shutout of her career and gave SEMO its first shutout this season.

Kell pitched a no-hitter through the first 3.2 innings before Kaia Bonshock ended the bid with a two-out double down the right field line in the bottom of the fourth inning. MSM had runners on second and third when Kell ended the threat getting cleanup hitter Brianna Manni to fly out to left.

While Kell was picking apart the Mountaineers in the circle, SEMO gave her a lead when it scored its only run in the top of the third.

Paige Halliwill hit a one-out double to center and went to third on a single by Kat Sackett. Alyson Tucker lined out to left and Halliwill scored the game's only run.

Kell retired MSM in order in third inning before giving up her first hit in the fourth.

In the fifth inning, the Mountaineers had another runner in scoring position with one out. Kell, however recorded back-to-back strikeouts as MSM couldn't score its runner from third.

MSM had one final opportunity with a runner on first and one out in the seventh before Kell kept the Mountaineers off the board again, this time getting Abigayle Perry to fly out and Mariah Godde to pop up.

Kell (4-2) picked up her team-high fourth win in 2023. Ten of her outs came on fly balls in her gem.

SEMO outhit the Mountaineers, 8-2. Halliwill, Aubrie Shore and freshman Brittany Affolter each had two hits.

Elizabeth King suffered the loss after allowing one run on six hits, striking out two and walking two in four innings.
