Shore's Walkoff Hit in the Eighth Inning Completes Doubleheader Sweep of SIUE Friday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Aubrie Shore's walkoff two-RBI single completed a doubleheader sweep for Southeast Missouri (9-6, 2-0), which beat SIU Edwardsville (8-13, 0-2) by scores of 4-2, 3-2, Friday in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams.

With the wins, SEMO extended its home winning streak to 19 games.

SIUE broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth inning when Paige Rocha doubled down the left field line, went to third on a passed ball and scored the go-ahead run on an infield single by Lexi King.

Paige Halliwill led off the Redhawks final at-bat with a walk and went to second on a single by Kat Sackett. After Alyson Tucker advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt, Kynzie Wrigley was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Shore, down 0-2 in the count, ripped a single to center scoring both Sackett and Halliwill for the extra inning victory.

Marisa Davis (3-1) was credited with the win in relief after pitching one scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

Davis relieved starter Paytience Holman who allowed just one run on five hits, struck out five and walked one through the first seven innings.

Both teams finished with seven hits as Abigail Rickermann and Halliwill each had two to lead the way. Halliwill tripled home a run that tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third.

Sydney Baalman (5-4) took the loss. Baalman scattered seven hits and gave up three runs. She also walked four and struck out two in 7.1 innings.

Sackett went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run, three runs scored and one RBI to key SEMO's game one win.

Sackett hit safely and scored in all three of her at-bats.

She helped grab the Redhawks a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with a leadoff double to right center. Sackett scored the game's first run when Rickermann delivered a two-out single.

SEMO tacked on another run in the fourth and one more in the sixth inning to finish off the Cougars.

Zoe Schulte scored Sackett when she grounded out in the fourth inning and Sackett hit a solo home run to right center for her first of the season in the sixth.

Delaney Kell (5-2) struck out six and walked one in six innings. Kell also gave up two runs on four hits en route to her team-high fifth victory.

Davis picked up her first save of the season after striking out the side in the seventh.

Sackett had all but two of the Redhawks' hits in game one.

SEMO posted its first series win of the season and goes for the sweep of SIUE Saturday in the finale at 12 p.m., CT.
