CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. –
Kat Sackett,
Kynzie Wrigley and
Jillian Anderson combined for six of their team's 11 hits to lead Southeast Missouri (4-4) to a 9-5 victory over Akron (4-3) Sunday at the Frost Classic.
SEMO, which has won four of its last five games, finished with double-digit hits for the third time this season.
Down, 1-0, SEMO took the lead with a five-run second inning.
Sackett ignited a one-out rally with a double to center field and
Marissa Peek walked. Wrigley singled and Sackett scored to tie the game.
Tatum Gerwitz reached on an error and Peek scored. Anderson followed with a single to left field bringing home Wrigley. Gerwitz stole home on the front end of a double steal and
Paige Halliwill hit a two-out double to knock in
Abigail Rickermann giving SEMO a 5-1 advantage.
Anderson singled up the middle for her second hit of the game with one out in the top of the fourth. She went to second on a bunt single by
Sydney Dennis and moved to third after Halliwill was hit by a pitch. On the next play,
Aubrie Shore hit into a fielder's choice and Anderson scored to extend the Redhawks lead to 6-1.
SEMO continued to have its way with the Zips in the fifth inning.
The Redhawk loaded the bases with two outs and Dennis delivered a two-RBI single to score both Gerwitz and Wrigley to widen SEMO's margin to 8-2.
SEMO again loaded the bases in the top of the sixth, this time with no outs. After UA got two outs,
Zoe Schulte ripped a single to left field and
Kileigh Grisham scored.
UA threatened one last time with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh, but the Zips got just one run.
Delaney Kell improved to 3-1 in the circle after giving up two runs on five hits in four innings. Kell also struck out one and walked one, facing 19 hitters.
Paytience Holman claimed her team-high third save. Holman has more saves through three weeks this season than she did in her first three years as a Redhawk.
