#7 Redhawks Season Concludes with Heartbreaking 1-0 Loss to Morehead State

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri women's soccer (7-6-6) fell in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Semifinals to Morehead State (8-5-5) 1-0 on Thursday night in Cookeville, Tenn.

SEMO was led offensively by sophomore forward and All-OVC second team selection Cayla Koerner. Koerner finished the match with three shots, including two on-goal in 72-minutes of gametime.

As a team, SEMO finished with six shots, including four on target while MSU registered 16 shots with six on-target.

Sophomore goalkeeper and second team All-OVC selection Sophia Elfrink finished the match with five saves. She played the entire 90-minutes between the sticks.

Early in the first half the Redhawks were on the front foot. A beautiful bit of play by Emily Baker to win the ball back on defense and delivered a nice through ball to Cayla Koerner

Koerner took the pass and rifled a shot to the bottom right of the Morehead goalkeeper for SEMO's first shot of the game.

The Eagles would respond with 10 first half shots as the game went to the intermission deadlocked at zero.

The second half featured some back-and-forth action as both teams searched for the equalizer as the game was scoreless approaching 10-minutes to go in the match.

MSU found the back of the net in the 82nd minute off a goal from Kate Larbes who got behind the SEMO defense and slid the ball to the bottom left of the net to give MSU a 1-0 lead.

SEMO fought for the remaining eight minutes and even played with a one-man advantage for the final minute and 12 seconds after MSU was shown a red card.

The Redhawks season comes to a close after making a run to the semifinals as the tournament's seventh seed and finish the year with a 7-6-6 overall record.
