COOKEVILLE, Tenn. –
Ryan Flournoy caught six passes for 203 yards and a touchdown to lead Southeast Missouri (3-4, 3-0) to its first road win of the season, a 28-3 victory over Tennessee Tech (2-5, 0-2) Saturday afternoon at Tucker Stadium.
Flournoy went over 200 receiving yards for the second time in his career as the Redhawks picked up their ninth-straight conference win dating back to the 2021 campaign.
The first play of SEMO's second drive of the game saw
Paxton DeLaurent hook up with Flournoy for an 89-yard touchdown. The play, which was the third-longest touchdown reception in program history, put the Redhawks ahead, 7-0, with 7:22 remaining in the first quarter.
Quarterback
Patrick Heitert took over for DeLaurent who left the game with a right shoulder injury early in the second quarter.
Heitert engineered a nice 13-play, 74-yard march that ended with his first career touchdown pass, a 7-yard toss to
Dalyn McDonald. The score extended SEMO's lead to 14-0 with 7:07 to play.
Hayden Olsen's 31-yard field goal gave TTU its only points of the of the contest and the Redhawks headed into the intermission with a 14-3 advantage.
After both teams exchanged punts on their opening drives of the second half, SEMO went to work at its own 30-yard line.
Heitert threw a 20-yard completion for a first down at the TTU 37-yard line. Two plays later, he hooked up with
Garrett Todd on a 35-yard completion. Todd's second catch of the season got the Redhawks to the Golden Eagles' 3-yard line before Heitert scored on a 1-yard run to widen SEMO's lead to 21-3 with 6:36 left in the third quarter.
After Olsen's 37-yard field goal sailed wide left, SEMO covered 80 yards in five plays to tack on seven more points. Flournoy's 60-yard reception moved the Redhawks to the TTU 16-yard line.
A 9-yard run by Heitert and personal foul penalty by the Golden Eagles gave SEMO a first down at the 3-yard line before
Geno Hess scored. Hess' 60
th career rushing touchdown pushed the Redhawks lead to 28-3 with 9:33 to go in the fourth quarter.
SEMO's defense shut out TTU for three quarters and won the turnover battle by a +1 margin.
Joedrick Lewis had an interception for the only takeaway of the day.
Bryce Norman paved the way with nine tackles, while
Lawrence Johnson and
Christian Fuhrman followed with seven and five, respectively. Additionally, the Redhawks held TTU under 100 rushing yards (98).
Offensively, Flournoy went over 100 yards in his career for the fifth time and first this season. He was one of seven receivers to catch a pass for SEMO.
Jack Clinkenbeard finished with a career-high 64 receiving yards on three catches.
DeLaurent was 7-of-10 for 184 passing yards and one touchdown before his game-ending injury. Heitert played the rest of the way completing 12-of-14 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown to go along with 21 rushing yards and another score.
Hess ran for 48 yards and went over 5,000 all-purpose yards in his career.
SEMO outgained TTU, 431-244, and averaged over seven yards (7.2) per play.
The Redhawks beat the Golden Eagles for the sixth time in the last seven meetings between the teams.
SEMO, which has won two in a row, heads to Southland Conference member Nicholls on Oct. 28.
