CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Vivian Lai and Trinity Calinescu went unbeaten at 6-0, never losing a set in doubles or singles play leading Southeast Missouri in its own Redhawks Invitational this weekend.
SEMO played host to the four-team event that also included SIU Edwardsville, Western Illinois and Tennessee Southern.
The Redhawks went 15-3 in singles and 6-2 in doubles for the tournament.
Calinescu beat Jordan Schifano from SIUE (6-0, 6-1) in flight two. At flight one she beat UT Southern's Otone Odajima (6-0) and Western Illinois' Paige Grice (6-3, 6-1).
At flight five, Lai defeated SIUE's Cydney Rodgers (6-3, 6-2). At flight three Lai shut out Victoria Sanches (6-0, 6-0) and upended Lorena Castellanos (6-2, 6-1) from UT Southern and WIU, respectively.
Juliette Talieu did not lose in singles going 3-0. Talieu picked up a thrilling win over SIUE's Margaux Guibal Britt (6-4, 0-6, 13-11) at the No.3 position.Â
Calinescu and Lai also went undefeated in doubles only surrendering four points over three matches.
Freshmen
Ewa Czapulak and
Maja Bajorek both went 2-1 in singles with losses coming from SIUE. Czapulak beat UTS's Sara Teoro de Morais (6-1, 6-0) and battled back to win in the third set against Agatha Carbonell (6-1, 2-6, 10-4).
Bojorek defeated UT Southern and WIU only dropping five points in the process while going 2-0 in doubles with partner
Lera Valeeva.
Valeeva continued took down UT Southern's Sheyla Zambrano (6-1, 6-0) at No. 6 and Aina Cortina-Pou (6-3, 6-1) from WIU in flight two to finish undefeated for the weekend.
SEMO will compete at the ITA Regional in Lawrence, Kansas Oct. 12-16 before wrapping up its fall slate at Central Arkansas (Oct. 27-28).
