Redhawks Set to Host the 2023 Home Opener on Saturday
Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics will host their first home tri-meet of the season on Saturday, Jan. 14, as they welcome in Centenary and Greenville to Houck Field House. The tri-meet is slated to begin at 2 p.m., CT.Â

SERIES HISTORY
Centenary Ladies
Southeast Missouri last faced off with Centenary in the 2022 Midwest Independent Conference championships on March 18, 2022 in Denton, Texas.Â
Â
SEMO defeated Centenary by a final score of 193.425-189.350 to capture fourth place in the conference tournament.Â
Â
Jolie Miller and
Lindsay Ockler tied for first place on the Bars to lead the Redhawks past the Ladies as Centenary took fifth place at the tournament.Â
Â
Greenville Panthers
Saturday's meeting between SEMO and Greenville will mark the first time that the two schools have faced off in gymnastics, and 2023 marks the inaugural season of Greenville gymnastics.Â

The Panthers are led by former Southeast Missouri Coach Bill Hopkins who led the Gymhawks to two Division-II National Gymnastics Championships during his time in Cape Girardeau (1979-1997).Â

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Centenary Ladies
For Centenary, Saturday's meet will mark the first action of the season for the Ladies.Â
Â
Last season, Centenary competed in 10 events and finished as high as second in those meets. Their best outing came on Saturday, March 10, 2022, when they competed in a dual meet with Texas Woman's University.Â
Centenary placed second, totaling 191.575 in Shreveport, La.Â
Â
The Ladies will return 12 athletes that were active during last season, including All-Around Taylor Ann Wilson who was named a First-Team All-American by USA Gymnastics.Â
Â
Wilson finished tied for fifth place at the USAG Collegiate Nationals on the Bars with a 9.825.  She was also named a MIC Scholar-Athlete in 2022.Â

Greenville Panthers
Greenville will come into Saturday's meet with one competition under their belt so far in 2023. The Panthers last went to compete at Big 10-member Ohio State's quad meet last Sunday (1/8).Â
Â
The Panthers competed against host-Ohio State, Pac-12 member Arizona, and Southeastern Conference (SEC) member Kentucky.Â

The Panthers placed fourth with an overall score of 181.425 and had their highest team total on the Vault rotation, collecting 47.675 points.Â
Â
Amara Nelson provided Greenville with its highest mark on the vault, registering a 9.675 to lead the Panthers in the rotation.Â
Â
Greenville's all-around entries were Nelson and Molly Froman. Froman tallied GU's top all-around score with 37.250, adding totals of 9.025 in the uneven bars and 9.125 in the balance beam to her previously noted scores. Nelson finished with 34.175 points.

LAST TIME OUT
Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics kicked off the 2023 campaign on Sunday, January 8, as they faced off against Lindenwood at Robert F. Hyland Arena. SEMO placed first in 3-out-of-4 rotations, but it was Lindenwood who took the dual by a final score of 193.200-191.775.Â

Lindsay Ockler, the 2022 Midwest Independent Conference Bars champion, picked up where she left off with a near-flawless 9.800 on the Bars to win the event.Â
Â
On the Beam,
Nyah Reader placed first overall on the beam from the sixth position. Reader, the Rexford, N.Y.-native, registered a 9.725 to claim the top spot of the rotation.Â

Sophomore
Madison Greene recorded a 9.875, narrowly missing a career-best record, to win the Floor exercise out-performing Lindenwood's Gayla Griswold (9.850) who placed second.Â
Â
Lindenwood's Gayla Griswold took home the top-spot in the Vault competition. One of Lindenwood's top returners, Griswold registered a 9.875 to pace the Lions.Â
Â
Taylor Ingle made her Redhawks debut on Sunday and turned in a 38.275 score All-Around placing second in the category, to lead the Redhawks. The Coppell, Texas-native competed in all four rotations for the Redhawks placing as high as fifth on the Floor exercise (9.675).Â
Â
Ingle started the Bars and the Floor rotation(s) in the number one spot for the Redhawks.Â
Â
Jaly Jones recorded an All-Around score of 38.475 to claim the top-spot of the day.Â
Â
On the Vault, it was
Lindsay Ockler who paced the way for SEMO. Ockler, who competed in the sixth spot, registered a 9.750 tying Riley Daniels of LU for second place.Â
Â
Madison Greene placed fifth with a 9.650 finish.Â
Â
Molly Maxwell (9.575), Ingle (9.550),
Janelle Lopez (9.550), and
Nyah Reader (9.275) competed as well.
Â
On the Beam,
Lydia Webb placed third overall, two spots behind her teammate Reader. Webb received a 9.625 to secure two-spots in the top-three for the Redhawks.Â

Molly Maxwell placed fifth overall with a 9.550 registered score, followed by
Taylor Ingle in seventh (9.475),
Jolie Miller in eighth (9.450), and
Lindsey Moffitt in 10th (9.250).Â
Â
For the Redhawks, Sunday's contest saw the best outing out of the Bars competition. As a team, SEMO scored a 48.250 in Sunday's first rotation.Â
Â
The vault was responsible for the next best score for the Redhawks. SEMO registered a 48.075 overall score.Â
Â
To round out the competition, SEMO scored a 47.825 and a 47.625 on the Beam and Bars, respectively, as the Redhawks fell in the season opener.Â

MIC NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Taylor Ingle was selected as the Newcomer of the Week in the Midwest Independent Conference, the league announced Wednesday morning.Â
Â
Ingle, a Coppell, Texas-native, made her Redhawks debut on Sunday competing in all-four rotations. The Freshman was slotted in the number one spot in both the bars and floor routine(s), and was in the second position for the beam and vault.Â
Â
Her best finish was fifth place which came on the floor routine where she registered a 9.675. Ingle, however, finished second with a score of 38.275 in the 'All-Around' category to put a stamp on an impressive freshman debut.

LOOKING AHEAD
Following Saturday's meet, the Redhawks will head back out on the road to Nashville, Tenn. To compete in the Tennessee Collegiate Classic. The Redhawks will face-off with Kent State, Lindenwood, and Fisk as a part of the quad-meet. Competition is to begin at 7 p.m., CT.Â
