CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Alayna Jakul registered her first career goal to push Southeast Missouri women's soccer (4-3-0, 0-0-0 OVC) past Evansville (1-2-2, 0-0-0 MVC), 1-0, Thursday evening at Houck Field.
Jakul's game winner in the fifth minute proved to be the difference as the Redhawks improved to 3-0 at home in 2022.
SEMO outshot the Purple Aces, 9-5, in the opening half including 4-3 in shots on goal.
Faith Liljegren registered the initial shot to setup Jakul's goal. That shot was deflected to Jakul off a save by Purple Aces netminder Sophie Lindner.
Jakul, a freshman midfielder from St. Charles, Missouri, then headed home her first career goal in her seventh career start. She competed in 59 minutes on the pitch Thursday.
Megan Heisserer had three shots during the opening half including a header just over the net at 6:25.
Liljegren also had three shots Thursday including one on target.
Elizabeth Rater looked to increase the SEMO advantage at 53:07 in the second half but her strike from distance just missed high.
Rater tallied three shots in her fourth start of the campaign.
Kiana Khedoo (2 SOG) and
Morgan McCourt (1 SOG) both chipped in a pair of shots.
McCourt, a redshirt senior forward from Burlington, Wisconsin, made her first start of the 2022 season Thursday.
Sophia Elfrink made six saves for her third shutout in 2022 and fourth win (4-3-0).
Lindner posted five saves for Evansville in the loss.
Emily Ormson (2 SOG), Kristen Harvey, and Rachel Rosborough (1 SOG) each compiled three shots for the Purple Aces who outshot the Redhawks 10-7 in the second period.
Shots finished 16-15 (6-6 SOG) in favor of the Redhawks.
Emma Brune,
Maddie Paulson, and
Natalie Jackson each saw the full 90 minutes of action Thursday night.
For Jackson, it was her seventh-straight full regulation game of the season while it was Brune's fifth consecutive 90-minute game (sixth in 2022).
Paulson competed in her first career 90-minute game Thursday.
Macie Hockett, a freshman from Glen Carbon, Illinois, made her first career start on defense.
The Redhawks earned six corners compared to one for the Purple Aces.
