Greene Named to Redbird Classic All-Tournament Team as Redhawks Fall to Illinois State Saturday

NORMAL, Ill. – Colby Greene was named to the 2022 Redbird Classic All-Tournament Team as Southeast Missouri women's volleyball (3-3) fell to host Illinois State (4-2), 25-18, 27-25, 25-16, Saturday afternoon at Redbird Arena.
 
Greene led the Redhawks over the two-day tournament with 33 kills (3.00 kills/set) on a .276 clip including seven kills and two blocks Saturday against ISU. For the graduate student rightside hitter from North Liberty, Iowa, the honor was her second-straight all-tournament team in 2022 and fourth in her career.
 
Zoey Beasley chipped in six kills with three digs and an ace against the Redbirds.
 
SEMO opened the match with a 6-2 advantage in the first set that ISU erased with a 6-0 run (8-6). 
 
The Redbirds then pulled ahead 14-8 after a 5-0 run capped by three-straight service aces by Kaity Weimerskirch.
 
ISU extended its margin to 20-15 and grabbed the opening set, 25-18, scoring five of the seven final points. 
 
SEMO once again started strong, commencing the second stanza with a 6-1 edge. 
 
The Redbirds cut the advantage to 8-7 after a service ace by Aida Shadwald before knotting the set at 10-10.
 
ISU utilized a 5-0 rally to switch the lead to the Redbirds, 17-15. 
 
Addy McAleer then slammed consecutive kills before an ISU error to retake the lead 19-18. She finished with four kills and three digs in her third-straight start Saturday. 
 
Lexie Smith and Greene then converted back-to-back rally stoppers for a 25-24 SEMO edge. 
 
ISU then extended its lead to 2-0 with three-straight points including a pair of consecutive aces from Sarah Kushner.
 
SEMO hit a match best .250 in a second set that featured 11 ties and seven lead changes. 
 
The Redbirds then opened the third frame with a 10-3 edge that grew to 18-8. SEMO came as close as 23-16 after a 4-1 run before ISU claimed the match, 25-16, after a block assist by Sarah Jacobsen and Regan Haith.
 
Avery Torrey posted five kills with two digs while Mackenzie Meehan and Lexie Smith both chipped in three kills. Meehan added four blocks followed by Smith's three.
 
Izzy Lukens dished out 12 assists with 12 digs for her second-career double-double. 
 
Jenny Shook, a freshman from Plainfield, Illinois, added nine assists with five digs in her first career start in her home state. 
 
Tara Beilsmith led the SEMO defense with 14 digs to go with five assists. 
 
Kalia Morris, a freshman defensive specialist from Kansas City, Missouri, added three digs in her third career match as a Redhawk.

Newcomers Taylor Beasley (two digs), Rachel Eddy and Ramiri Gardner (one kill) all played in their second career matches for SEMO. 
 
Kaitlyn Prondzinsk, the 2022 Redbird Classic MVP, led ISU with a match-high 10 kills while Kendee Hilliard chipped in nine. 
 
Katelyn Lefler posted 17 assists and seven digs and Nora Janka had 16 assists and five digs. Weimerskirch grabbed 15 digs with four aces and three assists. 
 
ISU earned 12 aces compared to SEMO's one. 
 
The Redbirds also outhit the Redhawks, .177 to .096. 
 
The Redhawks will stay on the road for the next two weeks to wrap up non-conference play. SEMO will next head to the UNI (Northern Iowa) Tournament Sept. 9-10 where they will face Grand Canyon, host Northern Iowa, and Western Michigan.
