EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIU Edwardsville (18-30, 9-16) completed a series sweep with 9-1 and 3-2 victories over Southeast Missouri (24-22, 13-10) Sunday afternoon at Cougar Field.
SIUE scored in all but one inning in its game one victory.
The Cougars built a 5-0 lead over the first three innings and scored twice more in each of the fifth and sixth frames to finish off its shortened six-inning win.
SEMO's only run of the contest came on an infield RBI-single by
Kelby Robinson in the top of the fifth.
The Redhawks had just three hits with Robinson,
Kaylee Anderson and
Tatum Gerwitz each getting a single.
Defensively, SEMO committed four errors.
Paytience Holman dropped to 5-5 in the circle. Holman gave up five runs on eight hits, struck out four and walked one in 2.1 innings.
In the nightcap, Lexi King scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly by Lauryn Yslava to send SIUE to a 3-2 win in 10 innings.
King led off the inning with a single and made it to third with the help of a walk and fly out before crossing home plate on Yslava's fly out to center.
Paige Halliwill scored a game-tying run in the top of the sixth to send the game to extra innings. Halliwill touched home on a sacrifice fly by
Aubrie Shore to knot things up at 2-2.
The Redhawks tied the game at 1-1 earlier in the contest when trailing by a run on Shore's leadoff home run in the second.
Marisa Davis (4-6) took the loss in relief. Davis gave up one run on one hit and walked one in two-thirds of an inning.
Rachel Rook started game two and pitched 8.2 innings with nine strikeouts. Rook also allowed two runs on five hits and walked one.
SEMO again finished with only three hits. Shore, Anderson and
Kynzie Wrigley each had one.
The Redhawks return home to host Belmont in their final series of the regular season on May 7-8.
