MURRAY, Ky. – Paige Halliwill and
Kat Sackett each had a hit for Southeast Missouri (21-18, 10-6) which dropped a close 1-0 decision to Murray State (31-11-1, 15-3) Saturday at Racer Field.
SEMO went without a hit until Halliwill singled up the middle with two outs in the top of the sixth inning.
The Redhawks had a hard time against Hannah James who struck out nine in her complete game two-hit shutout. James retired SEMO in order in the first, second and fourth frames. Only four Redhawks reached base for the game.
MSU scored the game's lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning. With a runner on second and two outs, Jordan Childress knocked in Taylor Jackson on a double to give the Racers a 1-0 edge.
SEMO had a runner in scoring position with one out in the top of the seventh when Sackett doubled, but James recorded the final two outs.
James (16-4) also walked two in her 16th win of the season.
Paytience Holman (4-4) took the loss. Holman gave up one run on six hits, struck out one and walked one in 3.2 innings.
SEMO and MSU close out their series with a 1 p.m., CT doubleheader Sunday.
