COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Jevon Mason picked up his team-high 15th multiple-hit game of the season as Southeast Missouri (23-9, 7-3) dropped a series-opening 10-3 decision to Tennessee Tech (19-12, 3-4) Thursday.
Mason went 3-for-4, was hit by a pitch and had one RBI, his third time getting three hits this year.
Ahead, 2-0, TTU scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth, four of which came on a grand slam by Golston Gillespie.
The Golden Eagles tacked on another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh before SEMO scored its first run on an RBI-single from Mason in the top of the eighth inning.
SEMO scored twice in the top of the ninth with a two-out RBI-triple by
Brett Graber and run-scoring single by
Ty Stauss.
Jason Rackers (4-1) fell to his first loss of the season. Rackers gave up seven runs (six unearned) on four hits, struck out two and walked three in 4.2 innings.
Matt Gelorme (2-1) earned the win. Gelorme struck out three, walked four and allowed six hits in 5.1 scoreless innings.
Graber and Stauss followed close behind Mason with two hits, while
Peyton Leeper and
Tyler Wilber one apiece. Wilber extended his hitting streak to seven games.
Defensively, the Redhawks committed three errors and left 14 runners on base.
SEMO and TTU play again Friday at 6 p.m., CT.
