CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Tim Billings and
Cole Cook joined Southeast Missouri's football coaching staff Tuesday.
Another familiar name to SEMO football, Billings was the Redhawks' head coach from 2000-05. He returns to Cape Girardeau to coach the outside linebackers and special teams.
Billings was named Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2002 after leading SEMO to an 8-4 record. After his head coaching tenure with the Redhawks, Billings spent 10 years coaching at Marshall, four at Wake Forest, two at Memphis and Oklahoma, five at Missouri and four at high schools in Oklahoma and Texas.
More recently, Billings coached five seasons from 2016-2020 at Southern Mississippi, where he oversaw the outside linebackers, tight ends and served as the Golden Eagles' defensive coordinator for three years. He was also Southern Miss' interim head coach for the second part of the 2020 campaign.
Cook, who will coach SEMO's tight ends, spent the last two seasons as offensive analyst on Eli Drinkwitz's staff at Missouri.
A native of Carrollton, Georgia, Cook played four years as a tight end at North Carolina State (2014-17), where he was elected to serve as a team captain.
In addition to Billings and Cook joining the staff, SEMO also promoted graduate assistant
Lucas Orchard to offensive line coach. Former Redhawks defensive line coach
Ricky Coon was hired as SEMO's defensive coordinator in December.
