Redhawks Drop Non-Conference Road Test at Ole Miss Thursday

OXFORD, Miss. – Southeast Missouri women's basketball (1-1) dropped an 83-57 road decision to the Southeastern Conference's (SEC) Ole Miss (2-0) Thursday evening at the SJB Pavilion at Ole Miss. 
 
Rahmena Henderson led the Redhawks with a career-best 13 points. Henderson, a Kilgore College transfer from Neptune, New Jersey, shot 3-for-8 from three-point range with three rebounds and two assists for her second-straight 10-plus point outing at SEMO. She competed in a team-high 34 minutes and was 4-for-8 at the charity stipe. 
 
Kennedi Watkins added 11 points for her fifth-straight double-figures game dating back to the 2021-22 season. She went 3-for-5 from the field with two assists and two steals in her first start of the 2022-23 campaign.
 
Tamia Stallings notched nine points in her second career game as Redhawk, going 4-for-7 from the field with four rebounds, two assists and two steals. 
 
Ole Miss opened the contest with a 4-0 lead that the Redhawks cut to three (7-4) after a bucket by Stallings off a steal in transition at 6:07 in the initial quarter. 
 
Kori Tomlin then knocked down a jumper as the shot clock was set to expire to cut the deficit in half, 12-6, with 4:06 left in the first period.
 
The Rebels closed the quarter on a 5-0 run for a 19-8 lead and went to halftime with a 35-17 advantage. Ole Miss shot 73 percent in the opening 10 minutes before a 9-for-18 third quarter. 
 
Ole Miss then utilized a 12-0 run to increase its edge to 49-19 at 8:13 in the third quarter.
 
SEMO was undeterred and then went on its own double-digit run. 
 
Henderson knocked down a three-pointer to open the Redhawks 10-0 run that cut the margin to 49-29 at 6:07 in the third. 
 
Stallings then added a basket followed by a three-point play from Watkins during the sequence. 
 
Henderson would split a pair of free throws to make the score 53-37 before the Rebels rebuilt its lead to 63-42 heading to the final quarter.
 
The Redhawks scored 25 points compared to 28 for Ole Miss in the third quarter Thursday. SEMO shot a game-high 46 percent during the frame. 
 
Henderson notched eight of her points during the third quarter, on a 2-for-3 rate from three. 
 
Tyia Singleton then converted a lay-up at 1:19 in the final quarter to regrow the Rebels edge to 83-55. She finished with seven rebounds and seven points. 
 
SEMO forced 21 turnovers on Ole Miss during the contest. 
 
The Redhawk shot 38 percent Thursday while the Rebels finished with a clip of 51 percent. 
 
SEMO was 16-for-33 from the field (49 percent) during the second half. 
 
Sophie Bussard and Alecia Doyle each added six points while Kiyley Flowers had five and Kori Tomlin finished with four. Flowers also dished out three assists with four steals in her first career start as a Redhawk.
 
Diona Reed grabbed a career-best matching four boards with a block.
 
Four Rebels finished in double-figures led by Snudda Collins (14 points) followed by Angel Baker (13 points), Rita Igbokwe (12 points with three blocks) and Madison Scott (10 points with seven rebounds). 
 
Myah Taylor had eight assists with nine points and five steals. 

SEMO Assistant Coach Kelsey Johnson made her return to Oxford after previously serving as the graduate assistant coach at the University of Mississippi under head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin in 2021-22.
 
The Redhawks next head to Columbia, Missouri, to take in-state foe Missouri Sunday afternoon at Mizzou Arena. Tip is set for 1 p.m., CT.
